Good lord, I've just started watching Teen Mom UK.

Obviously scraping the barrel of things to binge having been stuck at home so long, not the kind of thing I usually watch at all, but thought I'd give it a go.

God, this show makes me so uncomfortable. Ethically it seems so not in the interest of the people on the show. Are they paid well for it? Do they have legal advisors?

Um Megan's bf is in prison for manslaughter, Dylan has two more kids with someone else and I'm not sure he sees any of them.

If you find the UK one slightly unethical you should read about the first US one where a couple called Catelynn & Tyler gave a baby up for adoption. The show then became a massive hit & in retrospect the couple could totally have afforded to keep their baby. They have obviously both massively struggled with the decision they made at the time, not knowing what was about to happen with the show. Its horrendous.

Tbf to them, at the time that show aired they had no idea how big the show would be or that they would continue their story on Teen Mom.

If you watch Teen Mom you can see just how bad their situation was. Their parents were addicts. Tyler's father was in and out of prison.

All credit to them staying together and going on to have other children. They've spoken about how their lives have changed. They've both said that they still feel that placing their daughter for adoption was the right decision at the time.

Totally addictive, its my guilty pleasure.

@Twizbe the problem with Catelynn and Tyler is that they now can't just let Carly get on with her life. They seem to think that because of the position they're now in, they should have greater access to her and I think that's wrong.

I was going to say the same thing! It's awful. I watched it when it first aired right up to the most recent series. Amber has been made out to be such a villain but rewatching the early episodes, you realise how manipulative Gary actually was.

Regarding Catelyn and Tyler, I agree about them feeling entitled to access. They don't seem to accept that the parents want to protect Carly's anonymity. Catelyn and Tyler are on a widely watched TV show. Carly is of school age now. They're not going to want visits and the like aired on TV.

And don't get me started on Maci, she completely uses Bentley for her storyline, forcing him to talk about his therapy sessions on TV.

That's because her life is so dull now. All she has to make it worthy of watching is the relationship, or lack thereof, between Bentley and Ryan. Same with Chelsea on TM2 but at least she knew when it was time to quit.

Their instagram pages are ridiculous, full of people blowsmoke up their arses. I just checked Megan's page and she has a pic with a guy's face blurred out (must be the convict boyfriend) and everyone is like "so happy for you hun" 🙄.

I need to get a life. I'm going down a Teen Mom rabbit hole. The entire franchise is just awful.

Jesus Christ, this show sounds even worse than the American shows. I don’t think I can stomach watching it.

See I know what you mean Twizbe, they did totally make the right decision at the time, and had awful homelives that made bring a baby into the situation pretty bleak, but I think it absolutely kills them now to know that they'd have had the money to try and make it work with Carly. Even if they know in their heart of hearts it may not have worked out for them (and obviously noone knew the show would be such a sucess) I think on an emotional level it's totally messed with Catelynne's head.

Maci probably needs to quit now, but I guess it's easy(?) money. I think she's come out of it looking OK, comes across as a good parent etc, even if putting Bentley forward to talk about his therapy.

The whole Amber thing is just a car crash isn't it. I wonder if all the rehabs and therapy is paid for by themselves or MTV, they all seem to have a lot of therapy shown.

Anyway, bit off track as this is about the UK show, which I need to now watch thanks to this thread!

I always got the impression that Mia got pregnant because Manley was having a baby with Erin.

To be fair, good for him. I don't really like Manley and I think he's controlling and played Mia and Erin off against each other a lot, but I wouldn't want my kids life (or my relationship) aired on TV!

I always felt bad for Mia as I felt Maggie (Manley's mum) visibly favoured Erin too.

Maci and Taylor are constantly drinking - I think they both have a troublesome relationship with alcohol. There was an episode where she picked Bentley up from the school bus and she was slurring all over the place.

Oh wow, I had totally missed that Sunflower - but now you mention it there is always beer around. You never really see her parents in it either do you? Always has been Ryan's, although I think there were in the first series.

Yeah, it's a shame because I always liked Maci at the beginning and I think out of the four American OG's she's (imo) the most down to earth and sensible.

But no doubt fame, being a young parent and having your life on TV for the world to criticise is always going to have an impact.

The worst out of all of them is Jennelle from Teen Mom 2.

I watched the first series of it in the US back in 2009. I think a few of the women from that series are fairly popular still to this day but all seem quite troubled. Very sad.

Jenelle is a complete car crash, and staying with David is awful, although of course he is worse than her.
