Ds has had a cough for a couple of days, no temp or anything else. I called dr and they suggested a lateral flow test. We have done this, I've attached the first pic after 20 mins which is suggested then come back after an hour and it looks positive but it says only count results after 20 mins. I've attached both pics but has anyone had similar.

I'm still shocked that both a Dr and 119 advised a LFT on a child with a cough Shock

FluffySocks75 · 09/05/2021 18:57

Dr shouldn't have suggested lft for symptoms. Any symptoms automatically PCR. Positive lft automatically PCR.

Hope pcr is neg for you. But I'm really sad to hear how many professionals have suggested a lft for you. It's really not designed for that at all.

Looks positive to me.

Just to update everyone.
GP called Friday afternoon and asked for pictures of ds throat, after looking gp confirmed tonsillitis and prescribed antibiotics. Gp still advised we go for covid test, which we did that evening and results have come through as negative. Ds is feeling so much better after taking antibiotics.

Wow. Well I can see a line in both photos so the fact that a line shows after 20 mins indicates to me that surely there is covid present? What’s the point of doing LF tests if we can ignore the results?

This is not a dig at you OP but it seems like your DS could have had asymptotic covid, then developed the slight cough causing you to test. By the time he did the PCR test it was negative. I think I’d isolate everyone anyway but it’s probably too late for that now.

As others have said, we’ve done countless LF tests in our household and none have shown a line even when left overnight. But your DSs one had a line after 20 mins which just got darker.

Good way of keeping the real covid numbers down though.
TimeForLunch · 10/05/2021 06:35

It was a false positive then, having now been confirmed by PCR. They do happen. I hope your DS feels better soon, OP.

Volcanoexplorer · 10/05/2021 06:38

Yes, false positives can happen. We had two at school when we did the mass testing back in March.

Devey27 · 13/10/2021 23:22

I have had 4 positive LFT but PCR came back negative and now had 2 more positive results from a new box of LFT‘s so went for another PCR that came back negative to. I am so confused I have a continuous cough, had a temp for only one night but I am full of flu/cold symptoms sneezing, runny nose, sore throat ears etc has any one else had this ?

MargaretThursday · 14/10/2021 07:02

@Devey27
There's a problem with that happening at the moment. The advice is assume it is covid and act accordingly.

Fallon20carrington · 25/12/2021 10:44

I researched for help and advice and the results are accurate after 30 mins and both of my tests I've done last night and today came back positive but the first one came back positive after I left for work

Fallon20carrington · 25/12/2021 10:45

Sometimes covid tests can take a while to give you results my best mate who had covid had to do 3 tests

R0tational · 25/12/2021 10:59

Zombie thread

AdvicePleaseRTC · 25/12/2021 11:02

When I was positive I got a light result like that, the next day I tested again and it was bright and bold. PCR result f confirmed it.
