Been feeling the slump since I hit 40. Maybe a midlife crisis?! I know it’s silly, but I can’t help but think that if I was going to achieve this particular new exciting work thing (a change of career entirely), I would have done it by now.

So let’s hear about all your amazing life changes / achievements post 40!

Bought a holiday home

MassageBliss21 · 07/05/2021 22:13

I'm 41 and so far I have got a promotion, paid off all my debts (mortage not included) and am about to learn to drive.

This is a really great thread! My field of work has been decimated by covid and I feel it's unlikely that jobs will be available when my current contract ends. Feeling a bit apprehensive about but maybe it's a good time to take on a new challenge.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 08/05/2021 07:44

Passed a professional qualification which is master's degree level. Bought a beautiful period house.

alwayswrighty · 08/05/2021 07:50

Started Running and Kickboxing

Lost 7st

Divorced an abusive twat

Married an absolute gem of a guy

Found my work 'home'

I've still got many things on the list to do but covid/redundancy put a halt on for now

@Irishterrier

Your job sounds amazing - fun interesting and lucrative - what field are you in?

JMAngel1 · 08/05/2021 08:22

@40goodthings
You've got this!
You could be the next JK Rowling.

Bringonthebloodydrama · 08/05/2021 09:13

About to qualify as an English teacher (41). Demanding, stressful, intense, nerve wracking, but LOVE the kids and it's amazing to go in after years of corporate shit knowing I'm doing something valuable.

lonel · 08/05/2021 09:15

Love that list @newtb!

felulageller · 08/05/2021 09:42

Finally lost the weight.

HighNetGirth · 09/05/2021 10:39

Got married, had two children, got elected, learned to drive.

Thanks RealisticSketch. If only the first part were true and the second part false! Sadly not.

coodawoodashooda · 12/05/2021 04:30

Got rid of my abusive husband.

StellaOlivetti · 12/05/2021 04:34

I have always wanted to write for teenagers.
I signed my first publishing contract in January, novel comes out in September.
I am quite a bit older than you!
Never give up, never surrender x

coodawoodashooda · 12/05/2021 04:35

Wow. Pp. What made you have the courage to put your writing forward?

shewalkslikerihanna · 12/05/2021 09:11

Bought my first holiday home abroad in America followed by my second in france three years later, so every year had great holidays in three countries ( including this one)
Survived awful tragedies with mental health fairly intact.
After being a full time mum I trained as a counsellor and worked for the biggest national relationship counselling service and bereavement service
I also spent time working in a hospital and then for a charity
Now I’m very much involved with natural healthcare

Reas0nt0beaway · 12/05/2021 09:46

Got a new job & relocated to a completely new area

Also learnt to scuba dive & I have travelled to some amazing warm places to dive. I also joined a local scuba club, but it has been closed for the last year due to covid. The club is due open again soon

During the lockdown, I completed a virtual walk within the set timescale. This helped me discover places that I had never been to in my local area & learn about the history too.

herecomesthesunagain · 12/05/2021 10:06

Since turning 40 I've had 2 children, started competing at running finishing in the top 5-10 women in the races I have entered, completed the 3 Peaks, co-founded a successful business, and learnt how to say no to people! That last one has been the most liberating Grin

You are never to old to make positive changes to your life.

VestaRose · 12/05/2021 10:23

Love your list @newtb

edwinbear · 12/05/2021 11:18
