DH has sweet smelling breath, and bedroom smells

I noticed last night when I got home from work that DH’s breath smells very sweet. I also noticed it again this morning when he kissed me before going to work.

This morning our bedroom smells exactly like when you’ve been drinking the night before and wake up and you can smell the alcohol in the room.

I’ve read before that a pear drops smell could be a sign of diabetes. BUT he doesn’t have any other symptoms. In fact, over the last six months he’s been putting weight on as he’s had a really stressful time at work, gave up exercising and has been eating a load of chocolate and biscuits etc.

So I would definitely say he hasn’t got low blood sugar!

Can anyone think of what it might be instead please?

Oh dear - that's difficult. Good luck, OPFlowers

Well on the back of this thread I spoke to the GP yesterday and managed to get a cancellation for blood tests this morning. Hopefully all ok but my symptoms were similar, not sure about my breath but everything at the moment tastes and smells sickly sweet/malty. To the point where I can't stomach chocolate or coffee (my usual vices).

OP - I know you are doing your best, but it was really easy, I phoned the GP and told them my symptoms, then the GP called back and said he would refer me for a blood test. I hope all is well with you and you can get your DH at least to speak to the GP.

How does his breath smell lately OP? Is the pear drop smell still there?

I keep thinking about you and your DH @QuickNC789. How are you both?

BigBrightStarz · 13/05/2021 23:39

Same here, I've been checking back every other day to see if there's been an update. I do hope they're both OK and that he's agreed to get help now! Good luck OP! Flowers

@QuickNC789

How's your dh?

timeisnotaline · 16/05/2021 13:19

I keep thinking about this too. I hope the op managed to finger prick him.

justasking111 · 16/05/2021 13:21

@QuickNC789 well sure she has done her best, the rest is up to her OH.

LadyEloise · 23/05/2021 10:28

Any update @QuickNC789 ?

I have a DH who has to be practically pushed in to the doctor's surgery. 🙄

He won't even take a Panadol but will whinge about his headache/pain. Hmm

FluffySocks75 · 23/05/2021 22:19

Hope he is ok

@AbsolutelyPatsy

A keto diet, the atkins diet, causes this,
Why are you attempting to give such bad advice as fact.
AbsolutelyPatsy · 29/05/2021 14:40

it is well known @chaosmaker

give it a rest, the op is not interested in updating

Hope all is well with you. Being diagnosed with diabetes is a massive shock to the system but there is a load of help and free resources on www.diabetes.co.uk

@QuickNC789

Thanks for the comments everyone. This is the last thing he needs. Bugger.

He’s gone to work now and won’t be back til 6.15. Our GP surgery is video calls only right now. Is there any kind of test we can do ourselves over the weekend?

No.

Stop dithering, call the GP today and ask them to arrange a consult and test appointment (with the practice Diabetes nurse) .

GP's (and practice nurses) ARE still seeing selected patients face to face.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 29/05/2021 15:44

This is weeks old @2bazookas, only restarted by some odd ball spoiling for a bank holiday fight

@QuickNC789

Thank you for the continued supportive posts.

He still is adamant that he does not want to see his GP or do any tests either with home kits or through the hospital.

He has decided to go cold turkey on all the sweet food. He says he is going to re-start his exercise too.

There is only so much I can do. We were ‘discussing’ it until 2am last night. He is not a 4 year old I can pick up and take to the hospital.

Of course I am trying to do my best to get him to book an appointment or even go to the pharmacy but I literally cannot force him.

How is the cold turkey going OP?
