I have two wesco bread bins ( I have coeliac disease hence two) they are not the cheapest but they wear really well are easy to clean and I love the different colours and styles. One is over7 years old looks as good as the day I purchased it the bread stays fresh. I have always got mine through eBay from a company in Germany they're cheaper than in the UK even now we've left Europe.

I have this one. It started off on the countertop but was replaced by a coffee machine for lockdown, so now hides in a cupboard.

I keep my bread in a cupboard. I'm with your DH regarding shit on the counter tops.

I keep bread in the fridge so am no help...

I have a plain cream one from Asda. Very useful for keeping all the bread, wraps, crumpets, rolls etc together in one place. If I had space the bead bin would go in a cupboard, but I don't.

Talipesmum · 07/05/2021 08:43

We have a deep drawer where bread and potatoes live. We have had several bread bins but they are either not big enough, or if they are big enough, they take up too much space and harbour forgotten off cuts. And surface counter space is much more valuable. Bread drawer is great cos you get a good view of it all from above, and we keep bread, bagels, tortilla wraps, crumpets etc all in there - wouldn’t fit in the bread bin.

QueenAdreena · 07/05/2021 08:44

We have that Brabantia one too. Not the most exciting thing in the world but does the job. Lives on the windowsill so it’s not in the way.

FreeButtonBee · 07/05/2021 08:47

I use a cupboard shelf. Much better all round. A bread bin big enough to keep all the bread items we have would be enormous and take up half the worktop. This is much more flexible. Never going back to a bread bin again.

I like this idea. I’m designing a new kitchen- will probably be another year because I’m a slow worker! But this idea sounds fantastic. I’ll see if I can incorporate this. I have a huge drawer for cat food that pulls out and lights up so something similar for bread items would work well. Hadn’t thought of this.
tywysoges · 07/05/2021 08:55

I also have a brabantia, but a square one. It is quite big but fits all out bread needs. Grin

BeechTreeView · 07/05/2021 09:24

Quite like the idea of a big drawer with lights....

Me too. Excessive detritus, including but not limited to: mug trees, kitchen roll on a pole, tea and coffee caddies, a little pot for disgusting old tea bags, a dusty old spice rack, any random kitchen appliance that gets used rarely (popcorn makers, George Foreman grills etc) - it can all go in the bin. Or in a cupboard at least. No place for it on kitchen work surfaces.
BarbaraofSeville · 07/05/2021 09:30

I don't think bread bins do much to keep bread fresh, more to contain crumbs and keep the flies off. We have the brabantia roll top one and it's not sealed.

But it lives in a cupboard and isn't closed anyway, the roll top is always rolled back and bread just kind of sits in there, bagged up although it does designate the space for the bread. I should probably get rid of it and just put the bread on the shelf.

toptomatoes · 07/05/2021 09:31

Since having a new kitchen, we have a big drawer that houses all bread products - loaves, wraps, crumpets, etc. I much prefer it to a bread bin.

VenusClapTrap · 07/05/2021 09:34

We have a bog standard IKEA one from setting up home together years ago. Those things never die. But we are putting in a new kitchen shortly so this is a useful thread.

I hate clutter on work surfaces, but the bread bin has always been an exception to the rule because we get through so much bread. I like the Wesco one recommended up thread.

UCOinanOCG · 07/05/2021 09:35

I keep my bread in a tall pull out pantry cupboard. I still have loads of detritus on my surfaces though!

chatw00 · 07/05/2021 09:36

I have a stupid small kitchen, so hardly any counter space, and my partner introduced the idea of keeping the bread in the microwave! We don't use the microwave much, which helps... and the MW is built in, so doesn't take up counter space either.

GiantKitten · 07/05/2021 09:43

I have this one - it’s probably too rustic-looking for many people but it’s bright, clean and holds masses (& my kitchen is very old and scrappy. Bread bin is one of the nicest things in it Grin)

Bread bins are naff. We have a large deep drawer in our island for bread, wraps, crackers, etc.

Now that is a nice bread bin!

BrieAndChilli · 07/05/2021 10:34

I dont want to sacrifice cupboard space to bread etc and we have a corner with the toaster and current bread bin in (tall tin with a lid type one) but I hate it as crumpets and wraps etc get sunk to the bottom and covered with the bread etc so want like a double tier bread bin as we have a laof of white and a loaf of brown as well as bagels./cumpets/wraps etc
havent been able to find one I like enough!

BeechTreeView · 07/05/2021 12:02

@ShirleyPhallus. That’s my DHs view. I’m good with olive oil, teabag bowls, tea caddies... he’s more year zero on it all.
