What would you cook/eat

If just for yourself? My DH is away this weekend working so have a ‘free’ night to myself where I only have to cook for myself.

There was a recent similar thread with some good ideas on but I can’t find it.

So what would you cook/order/eat if you had a free night to yourself with no one else to think about?

Looking for some (easy and possibly nostalgic inspiration!) Grin

Crisps probably Grin

But if I could be bothered I would do something cold and picky like loads of nice salads and cheese, so I could just graze. Or a really nice veggie burger.

Fishfingers, chips and ketchup.
Eclairs for afters.

Noodles, with loads of veg in a spicy sauce. (I do one with ginger, garlic chilli, honey, white wine vinegar and stock).

I'd then eat crisps / chocolate / ice-cream in no particular order.

Egg n chips.

Or bowl of cereal and a chocolate bar.

Or veg stir fry if I was hoping to drop a lb or 2.

Crisps and gin if lazy.

I'd defrost some homemade chilli from the freezer and have with rice and grated cheese and salsa if I was feeling hungry and cold.

Beans on toast with grated cheese and loads of Worcs sauce is most likely option as easy and quick.

I would get all the picky things I like in like a baked camembert, nice salads, bread etc.

StevieNix · 06/05/2021 18:37

I would have french bread, Camembert or Brie, sundried tomatoes, olives, Parma ham.
Followed by some sort of crisps with dip to pick at through the evening (maybe Doritos and sour cream dip?)

Shakshuka with some crusty bread, or a M&S paella, lovely!

ChippyTea16 · 06/05/2021 18:52

Mmm these all sound so good. My problem is I get far too over excited at the thought of food and think this is a good opportunity to eat all the stuff I love in one go! I think I need to wait and see what I’m in the mood for but I like the idea of the bread, cheese and crisps and dip.

I’m not in the uk otherwise I’d get a chippy (hence my username haha).

When ds is at his dad’s I cook the things he doesn’t like.. usually prawns or veggie dishes with sweet potatoes or butternut squash (he’s not fussy but these are the few things he doesn’t like and I really do!) If he’s away for the whole weekend I tend to cook enough on the Friday to have leftovers on the Saturday, and thus a night off from cooking.

Bacon and tomato sandwich with lots of mayo, and crispy bacon on toasted wholegrain bread.

I would probably order a takeaway as there are lots of good restaurants on Deliveroo here but that depends on what is available where you live.

I would probably only cook if I wanted a favourite meal that my DP didn't enjoy or make something quick and easy but luxurious like a good steak and homemade chips with a salad.

Charcuterie, smoked salmon, cheeses, grapes, figs, crudites, olives, cornichons, deli nibbles, a Greek or Middle Eastern mezze, tapas, sushi, chilli crackers, cheddar shortbread, good bread or fancy crackers, anything that doesn't require cooking served with a glass of wine would be my go to. You could make yourself a mini retro buffet with sausage rolls, cheese and pineapple/silverskin onions, twiglets, rice crispy cakes etc if you want some nostalgia Grin

Big bowl of pasta arrabiata with a shitload of melted cheese on top. With a big glass of cold white wine.

FizzyPink · 06/05/2021 19:03

The frozen Itsu duck bao buns you get in the supermarkets now. And I’d have all six to myself with no shame.

Alternatively, my other guilty pleasure is soft white rolls with a breaded chicken fillet with lots of Mayo and lettuce

A whole courgette fried in olive oil with garlic and salt, spooned through penne pasta with parmasan. Or blue cheese and brocolli again with penne and rocket.
