DD can JUST read to herself and is at the stage of reading picture books to herself (including new ones if they are simple), what are your DCs into that are similar? She likes Meg and Mog, and Mog the cat, and we just read Dinosaurs love Underpants but when I suggested I get her a few more of those for her upcoming birthday she said BUT IT HAS TO BE A SURPRISE MUMMY.
So not those.
Bonus points for readable by me. She has several that are completely tedious.

Ooh great stuff.
We are missing a few in the Hairy Maclary series and I haven't heard of the squirrels or koala.
The others are already favourites so clearly similar taste to DD! She's been as the tiger for two WBD and this year was Debbie Thomas with her Mog teddy.

My daughter is currently loving Peepo, Who Sank The Boat and Giraffes Can't Dance. She doesn't read by herself yet though.

GravityFalls · 07/05/2021 10:22

Oh yes, Peepo and Each Peach Pear Plum (they feel so clever when they get the jokes in the pictures themselves!). Duck in a Truck is fun because of the rhythms.

BlackeyedSusan · 07/05/2021 10:37

who's in the loo?
aliens in underpants,
giraffes can't dance
duck in a truck.
diary of a wombat
good night gorilla

these are the ones I remember, from about 8 years ago.

Kipper books by Mick Inkpen. Smile

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 10/05/2021 19:20

Claude books by Alex T Smith... Very early chapter books.

Rainallnight · 10/05/2021 19:22

Pip and Posy are not fantastic books but are a relatively easy read

UnalliterativeGeorge · 10/05/2021 19:25

Is there a dog in this book?
There's a bear in my chair
I want my hat back
Shh we have a plan

drspouse · 10/05/2021 22:54

We love Kipper! We also love Claude but they have a lot of hard words and jokes like Franglais.
I've ordered a load of these so she'll have a big pile of new books to open.

Oi, Frog. And the others in the series.
John Burningham - Would you rather? (And Avocado Baby by him).
The Day the Crayons quit.
A very old one but it’s lovely: Titch, by Pat Hutchins.
The Blue Balloon - Mick Inkpen. That’s been a firm favourite here for several years.
Mr Magnolia, Amelia Sprocket’s pockets, Mrs Armitage - all by Quentin Blake.

babybythesea · 10/05/2021 23:12

Oh, and Open Very Carefully. By Nicola Someone.
And in a similar vein, a book called ‘Use your imagination.’ Both very clever.

DelurkingAJ · 10/05/2021 23:18

The Apple Tree Farm books are a big hit here along with things already mentioned like You Choose, Hairy McClary, all thing Julia Donaldson, and anything by the Albergs (Happy Families are quite fun).

FurrySlipperBoots · 10/05/2021 23:29

The Large family books (with the elephants). 'The Last Noo-Noo' is great too. In fact anything by Jill Murphy.

Funnybones! They're great because lots of pictures, but a 'comic book' style, lots of speech bubbles etc to break the page up.

Six Dinner Sid

Alfie and Annie-Rose? Most of the other Alfie books have too many big passages but this one isn't bad at all for an early reader.

Willy and Hugh!! I love this book. Easy for a little one to read with a nice moral to it. Makes me laugh too.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/05/2021 23:36

Oi Frog.
Lost and Found.
Kitchen Disco.
