Anyone know areas near Lee Valley and / or Warminster?

We have two separate weeks holidays booked for these areas. We are coming down from Scotland with 14&10 year olds. So far we have Harry Potter studios and Longleat booked and that's it. Any suggestions of things to do ? Doesn't have to be a whole day out even just some things to go / see / visit we might not otherwise know about.

Thank you!

Westbury White Horse is interesting, cracking views from the top.

The tank museum is worth a visit if your dc like that sort of thing. It's only half an hour from there to Swanage for the seaside too.

Stourhead is a good walk, also if the Longleat Estate reopen the car parks then Shearwater Lake and Heaven's Gate are lovely walks.

Bath is about 30 mins from Warminster, Frome is worth a look as is Salisbury.

I don't really know that far out. Forty hall and capel manor aren't that far. There's country parks all over cheshunt. Broxbourne has/had a pool with a wave machine and a boating pond near that and a canal you could walk down. I think theres a place where you can spot dragon flies and fishers green has an otters den or something. Hayes hill farm is near there. Gunpowder mill country park along Seward stone road. Epping forest isnt too far. If you are going there, theres a heritage steam train. Paradise wildlife park is near. Theres an abbey at Waltham abbey and the wild water rafting place.

Hoddesdon isn't too far to get the train in to central london for the day either.

There's old Macdonald's farm along the m25, that looks good for kids when I've passed it.

Diggerland near Rochester wouldn't be too far to go for the day either, and there's loads of things in kent. I think theres caves not too far from diggerland. Rochester castle.

If you go to Warminster park as it's getting dark and sit by the lake, you can watch bats coming down to the water to feed and drink. Free evening out!

Rye Meads RSPB Reserve is very near Hoddesdon (also has a very nearby station - Rye House) - about 7 mins drive from where I think you are staying. There is a pub with a garden close to entrance. The reserve has nesting kingfishers amongst many other species.

Personally, I think Rochester is rather far from where you will be staying in either place.

It might be for some people but I regularly drove London to Margate so 1.5-2 hrs became nothing really.

HunkyPunk · 05/05/2021 13:02

Stonehenge? About half an hour's drive from Warminster. Then a further 20 mins to get to Salisbury, if you wanted to combine the two. Going back to Warminster direct from Salisbury would only be just over 30 mins.

HunkyPunk · 05/05/2021 13:14

Also Wookey Hole Caves are about 45 mins drive from Warminster. Well worth a visit!

Thanks everyone off to google all your suggestions!
