I had a real one. I’m sure there are lots of advantages to a fake one and my aversion to fake flowers is definitely pure snobbery. I know people like to keep them but if you’re throwing the bouquet, the person who catches it should get to take it home anyway AFAIK?

Gunpowder · 04/05/2021 07:46

Always real! Even if it’s a £2 bunch of white tulips from Tesco. I think there is something romantic about carrying/wearing fresh flowers which predates all the modern wedding traditions.

DiddlyWiddly · 04/05/2021 07:49

I had fake bouquets for decoration, they were beautiful but not comparable to real flowers imo

DeltaFlyer · 04/05/2021 07:51

I had a fake bouquet, mainly for photos as it was much cheaper. Still have it on display at home. But we just had ourselves, ds and 2 witnesses plus vicar so not out to impress anyone as we married on the sly.
If we'd have been inclined to have a big wedding I think I'd have chosen real flowers though.

I had a bouquet of silk peonies from Laurel Silk Flowers on Etsy. We got married overseas, just the two of us. They looked real in photos and weighed nothing which was great. I also didn't think twice about putting them down for a few minutes. You could tell they were fake up close but from a couple of metres away you couldn't. They aren't like the plastic flowers I remember seeing in peoples houses growing up.

dizzycatdance2 · 04/05/2021 07:58

I had a dried flower bouquet.

Bramble88 · 04/05/2021 07:58

Iv got fake flowers as im getting married aboard and want to bring them back for my nans grave. Definately not like the fake flowers of old!

JorisBonson · 04/05/2021 07:59

Also had dried, with a few fakies in there. Still looks beautiful and I have it in a vase on display.

Seainasive · 04/05/2021 08:01

I had paper flowers from etsy and loved them and still do.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 04/05/2021 08:01

I had fake as years ago when I got married you couldn’t find a florist who would open on a Sunday. They didn’t look fake though, even close up. I’d have preferred fresh but it wasn’t a deal breaker and turned out to be a lot cheaper although that wasn’t the motivation.

I had silk flowers 34 years ago. Both myself and my mum suffered horrendously with hay fever hence not having real flowers.

piglet81 · 04/05/2021 08:06

Real flowers for me. I had a simple bouquet of off-white roses from M&S, as did my bridesmaids, and for the floral arrangements at the venue my mum and I bought the flowers from Covent Garden flower market and a whole load of us arranged them the day before the wedding. Greenery came from our garden! (I wouldn’t have known where to start on the flower arranging without my lovely mum.) We made the buttonholes too. Great memories.

Cactuslockdown · 04/05/2021 08:09

Real flowers for me. We only had the bouquets done by the florist, we did the reception flowers on the tables which were simple and lovely

nellly · 04/05/2021 08:10

I've got fake ready for my (postponed) wedding. I love them, I suffer terribly with hay fever so real was a none starter Grin they look beautiful to me!

as141 · 04/05/2021 18:05

Great to hear everyones opinions - thank you :)

I'm having a very small (12 people) and simple covid friendly do. Would like real flowers though. I wonder if I could make one from Bloom&Wild or similar, any ideas?

What do I actually need - a bunch of stems/flowers and string?

Also due to having hay fever!

Londonmummy66 · 04/05/2021 18:30

I had fresh but if I were marrying now I'd commission a brooch bouquet from bits and pieces belonging to relatives. The good ones look so amazing.

ThatIsMyPotato · 04/05/2021 18:32

I'd just go to a local florist and ask them. They'll be able to fit to your budget.

Dowser19 · 04/05/2021 18:36

Real
Got married in Tenerife and a hand tied bunch of roses was something like €30
Bargain and looked lovely

fairgame84 · 04/05/2021 18:40

I got fake foam bouquets from groovyruby. They are lovely and really detailed.
I was supposed to be getting married abroad so I got fake to make sure I could have the bouquet I wanted without trying to navigate florists in a foreign country where I don't speak the language.

OutspokenNotThatFunny · 04/05/2021 18:43

I had real as did everyone else.
2 youngest bridesmaids had artificial the wands. As at 6 and 18m they wouldn't of lasted 2min lol.
