My son had a blister from new shoes last week and didn’t tell me. By the time I saw it, it was quite big. I put a compeed plaster on it over the weekend as instructed on the packet. I’ve just taken it off and there was a lot of yellow discharge on the plaster and it was a bit smelly. Im going to ask a pharmacist tomorrow how to help it heal. Looking for feedback on how to dress it to get him to pharmacy though, don’t want anything to stick to it. I have micropore and savlon.
So much conflicting info online - either leave it to air or keep it moist!

I’m all for ‘wet healing’, I would coat it in sudicrem and put a dressing over it. Everyone will have there own way of dealing with it.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 03/05/2021 21:44

It looks nice and clean so I would use a large dressing pad to keep it clean and dry and definitely not use any cream.

FelicityBeedle · 03/05/2021 21:45

Let it dry! Don’t put cream or a plaster on just leave it be

I'd drive him there and have him walk in in flipflops.

BakedBeansBang · 03/05/2021 21:47

I wouldn’t put Savlon or Sudocrem on it. I’m a vet, so decent knowledge of wound healing. There are gels which are designed for putting on open wounds, which the pharmacist can advise you about, but to get there you need a non-adherent dressing. Perhaps a large plaster (with a non-adherent central part)?

Cocolapew · 03/05/2021 21:47

I have one like that, weeping etc. Put the blister plaster on and keep it on. I made the mistake of taking it off to let the air dry it out but as soon as I walked it cracked open again.
I started a thread a few days ago and have kept the plaster on since, if it comes off I replace it. Its made a big difference.
He has my sympathy, I was in agony.

AnExcellentWalker · 03/05/2021 21:49

No cream. Blister plaster, they really do help. You can get really large ones.

Cocolapew · 03/05/2021 21:55

I hope whoever invented blister plasters got the Nobel Prize or something, they're amazing.

PlanDeRaccordement · 03/05/2021 22:01

I agree blister plaster as that is quite big and deep. I use the ones eith silver in them. Silver is anti-bacterial, speeds healing and reduces chances of scarring. Change daily...after shower.

Also, don’t let him wear shoes until it heals or it will just keep rubbing raw! He needs to wear flip flops or sandals. It’s okay to wear them with socks.

I’d toss the shoes, get his feet measured and get properly fittIng shoes. That size blister from just walking around is not normal even with new shoes.

Nohomemadecandles · 03/05/2021 22:04

Every pair of new shoes does that to my stupid shaped feet. I feel their pain. Compeed. Don't scrimp on own brand, get Compeed!

dementedpixie · 03/05/2021 22:06

Stick another blister plaster on. It looks nice and clean and not infected. Blister plasters always look a bit gooey as it's a hydrocolloid gel

Loubiemoo · 03/05/2021 22:07

Yep, compeed plasters and just leave them on. Don’t keep changing or it rips off the healing skin underneath.

redcandlelight · 03/05/2021 22:09

yes to blister plaster. you might need to ask for extra large ones at the pharmacy as sometimes they are not on shelves.

Cocolapew · 03/05/2021 22:12

My plasters are usually on for 3 days or 4 days.
I can wear shoes no problem once I have one on. Mine was from trainers and they fit fine, the back was lower than I'm used to, and I walked too far in them.

DancesWithDaffodils · 03/05/2021 22:12

Compeed (cheaper ones dont work) and DO NOT TAKE IT OFF. All the new skin that was growing gets taken off when the plaster is pulled off. You need to let it fall off.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 03/05/2021 22:33

Definitely compeed - and definitely don't take it off! Leave it on until it naturally falls away. He'll be able wear his shoes as normal with compeed.

Autosavepassword · 03/05/2021 22:48

Compeed blisters plasters. And some medical adhesive remover for when they need removing as those buggers stick and stick firmly.

idontlikealdi · 03/05/2021 23:11

More competed. I get this with literally every pair of shoes, I have strangely sensitive feet. Don't be tempted to take it off but as it's a little one I would check the infection isn't tracking.

Hellvelyn · 03/05/2021 23:17

Blister plaster then leave it. They aren't supposed to be taken off. Heals underneath then eventually comes off on its own. Years of walking and hiking so I speak from much experience. Make sure the wound is as clean as possible (I like to use an antiseptic wipe), massage the blister plaster a bit to make it more pliable, then attach and press down gently until it's firmly in place, then carry on as normal. Compede can be worn in the bath/shower with no probs.

OpenSore · 03/05/2021 23:19

Thanks everyone! I’ve gone with majority and I’ve put another compeed on it. Luckily I had bought another pack of the big ones today. The reason I took it off tonight was to check for infection but I should have just left it! It had been on since Friday afternoon.

QuestionableMouse · 03/05/2021 23:22

I do a blister plaster then put some zinc oxide tape over it so it doesn't get rubbed off.

Graffitiqueen · 03/05/2021 23:22

Put another comped on and don't remove it until it falls off. Otherwise you tear off all the new skin.

OpenSore · 09/05/2021 15:14

Me again... the compeed plasters are still on! That’s 7 days!! Is that normal?

OP posts:
Autosavepassword · 09/05/2021 15:21

Yep. It'll fall off when its ready

Hellvelyn · 09/05/2021 17:16

Yep. The longer the better. Only worry if there's a sudden increase in pain or the surrounding skin starts to look red/angry. Don't be tempted to pull it off. There's lovely new skin underneath but it's delicate.
