Wool duvet?

Girlintheframe · 03/05/2021 10:11

Anyone got one?

What's your opinion on it?

Despite HRT, cotton nightdress and summer duvet I'm still getting night sweats!

Checked my duvet and it's polyester so am thinking changing to perhaps a wool one but before I shell out wondered what others thought of them.

Best decision we ever made

I've got one and love it , I bought it from dunelm , I love it most of the year but when it's very cold I like an extra throw on my feet

LeonardLikesThisPost · 03/05/2021 10:18

I have one and love it for winter, heavy and brilliantly cosy. But it's too warm for summer for me. I've just switched it out for my summer duvet, which is silk-filled, because I'd woken up sweaty a few nights running.

I do seem to be quite sensitive, temperature-wise, though.

Zenithbear · 03/05/2021 10:22

I have two with different weights/tog ratings. But we also have a wool and silk mattress and a wool mattress protector.
No more sweating and as soon as you get in the bed it feels warm no more shivering when you first get in.

Girlintheframe · 03/05/2021 10:33

I would be getting a summer one.

Are there any particular other types or brands people would recommend?

Been using wool duvets for over 30 years - love them, got ours from the wool room.

Zenithbear · 03/05/2021 10:45

Also the Wool Room but in the sale.

madroid · 03/05/2021 10:53

I use my lightweight summer one in the winter and switch to sheet, blanket and quilt in the summer so that i can remove a layer if I get too hot.

Wool duvets are lovely but v warm imho.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/05/2021 10:56

Too hot in summer. I have resorted to the old-fashioned option of sheets, wool blankets, waffle-weave cotton blankets and a cotton bedspread so I can mix and match.

Oldraver · 03/05/2021 10:59

We have silk ones (and silk mattress/ mattress protector) and while I love them and they are great for night sweats, you can't wash the duvets

Mattress protector says you can wash so will soon

I had a wool coat duvet for DS and it was a dream to wash, so sort of wish I'd gone for wool

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 03/05/2021 11:00

Love mine, also have wool pillows and my mattress is wool topped.

Mine is a lightweight duvet and I just add blankets if I need more warmth.

FindBetty · 03/05/2021 11:11

Love mine - from the Wool Room - and am slowly changing all the beds over to wool duvets, when sales are on. It adjusts to body temperature beautifully, has a nice weight, and lies flat on the bed, making the room seem slightly bigger somehow. DC with allergies to feather duvets are fine with wool.

Loubiemoo · 03/05/2021 11:15

Yes. I have a winter weight one but use it more or less all year round. I’m peri menopausal, so swing between icecold and melting and DH is always hot. It works great for us.

As a bonus its quite heavy, so settles nicely around you.

Got ours from Sleep and Soak.

Loubiemoo · 03/05/2021 11:15

Sorry, Soak and Sleep.

reluctantbrit · 03/05/2021 11:15

We started with DD having one when she got out of sleeping bags. When DH and I had to get new duvets we also opted for them.

I love them. I add a blanket if necessary. I definitely feel a difference when I stay somewhere and they use polyester duvets. So much more sweating.

Can't remember but I think we got ours from John Lewis.

16purplecolour16 · 03/05/2021 11:25

I have one due to night sweats. BIG fan of wool for both ecology and tactile qualities. It has softened with use but not as snuggly as my synthetic duvet especially round my feet. I wear bed socks now. Bought mine from one of the two big online suppliers and it’s slightly too big for the duvet cover. Every time I make the bed I mutter ‘how difficult is it to get an accurately sized duvet for a standard cover.’ Grrr. I’m not particularly house proud but I do love a sharp smooth made bed. On balance, if not for the night sweats and eco factor, would be tempted back to a synthetic duvet.

bellropes · 03/05/2021 11:38

Dh had one, but the moths got in and ate parts of it which was a bit disturbing. We had to throw it out.

Sleep and Soak - the shop for menopausal women. Visit our sister shop, Sweat and Wake.

alpinia · 03/05/2021 11:42

Have two Baavets from their bargain box section and I love them. Really good quality, think I've had them 6 years now and they are in perfect condition. I have one light weight one for summer and a heavy weight one for winter. Probably don't need both though really

SoosanCarter · 03/05/2021 11:46

Mine’s a Baavet too. I have the extra lightweight one. My house is very warm at night. They’re made in Wales from Welsh wool, so supporting the economy.

Theydidntwin · 03/05/2021 11:47

I have a Baavet too, also from the Bargain Box.

It’s fine for us, but I don’t suffer from night sweats so I couldn’t comment on how effective it is if you do.

Girlintheframe · 03/05/2021 13:31

Thanks all. Will have a look at the recommended shops and see what I can find.

We got a Baavet midweight one about 3 years ago after recommendations from MN. Paid full price, but worth every penny.
