In two years time I will be forty. I’m currently unfit and just into the obese category. I need to change things around. I’m not sure where to start. I’m still breastfeeding if this is relevant but my youngest is nearly two.

One day at a time. x

Sort your diet and everything else will follow. Cut sugar, white carbs, alcohol, caffeine. Start some sensible exercise

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 02/05/2021 22:28

One of my colleagues has recently done this for her 40th. She's gone tee total and vegetarian, goes for a 45 minute walk every day and does home workouts with Les Mills.

Thanks everyone.
@Tickledtrout I rarely drink alcohol or caffeine but I definitely need to get rid of sugar and white carbs.

@Hobnobsandbroomstick I’m glad your colleague has managed to make changes. I barley drink alcohol, I’m mostly veggie but actually I think eating some chicken would be good for me and I do at least 45 mins walking but at young children’s pace. I will definitely schedule in some more exercise.

@LittleOverwhelmed thank you. I’ve started today.

I have a trampette in the lounge. I can get my steps up really high watching telly, which helps when you can't go out.

Set little targets and tick them off. So maybe
stop buying eating processed biscuits- tick.
Hit 10k steps once a week- tick.

As each one becomes a habit, add something else in.

I'm doing slimming world and have moved from morbidly obese to obese. I don't believe one diet plan is the answer, but it has helped me to have a framework. When I reach target, I'll switch my goals to cut out the muller lights and fibre one bars in favour of 'real' food.

Iknowtheanswer · 03/05/2021 08:35

I think that it's really exciting to have a plan like this!

I wouldn't make it too complicated. Cut out sugar, white bread etc. Try and cook simple food from scratch (portion or meat or fish, lots of vegetables).

Increase your fitness - couch to 5K, Joe Wicks Hiit on YouTube, introduce some light weights when you can.

Enjoy.

ureterr1blemuriel · 03/05/2021 08:43

Try the Joe Wicks plan - it’s on an app now. Totally doable and you eat loads on it, just better food.

If you look at the Instagram page and Facebook there’s loads of before and after plan examples and the results are amazing.

If sugar and carbs are an issue for you, I'd recommend looking at low carb bootcamp on here. A bit trickier for vegetarians (I am eating fish whilst I'm taking part tbh) but it'll be a revelation how removing non green carbs from your diet, and upping fat and protein, address weight loss, sort cravings and hunger and help with energy levels.

I'm 40 too in 2 years and also looking to get fit and healthy!! I lost 3.5 stone when I was breastfeeding, doing slimming world and I had a treadmill to do the couch to 5k app. Joe Wicks podcasts are really good listening while going for a quick walk.
Just remember you can do this and everytime you eat it is a choice, healthy or unhealthy. Good luck, you've got this!

Zerogravity · 10/07/2021 14:38

I'm doing the same but I want to be fit for 50! I started in November and have already seen some improvements but I should have started at 40!!
