Has anyone got an electric car?

We're looking at taking the leap.

Considering the Kona or Niro, both have 250+ range. We'd get a home charging pod fitted (around £900 apparently) but there's 4 rapid chargers all within 15 mins of us, including at Morrisons which is handy!

We've got another (petrol) car we'd use for long distances. This car would just be for work and back (20 mins).

Any opinions, or tips and advice? Thanks!

Are the fast public chargers (not rapid) the same speed as a home charger? I've only really looked at where the rapid chargers are (lucky there's one down the road in Morrisons. But just the one)

Most of them are quicker - If you look on zap-map it tells you the charging speed- my local Tesco has two 7kwh chargers that are free to use.

Do it, you'll love an electric car! I'm nearly 4 years in to electric car ownership and would never switch back now. It takes a bit of getting used to but there is a lot of information out there these days so it's not such a massive leap. Make sure you check out the real world range of both cars, it's important to know that the range advertised is in optimal conditions (warm day, slow steady driving etc) so you won't normally get that.

I do pretty much all of my charging at home, I plug it in when it's on the drive and I don't have to worry about charge unless on a long journey. Even then range anxiety has diminished massively. There are chargers everywhere now and I'm never devastated to have to stop and get a coffee and cake on a long journey Grin

@Doublechocolatetiffin 'range anxiety' Grin both the Kona and the Eniro says 280-90 miles. Will get a home charging pod so I can't imagine we'll need to charge anywhere else as it won't be used for long journeys.

EO MINI PRO 2 CHARGER

www.eocharging.comm_

• The Charger I would recommend is an EO Mini Pro 2
• This is a Smart enabled charger and fully conforms to the OLEV grant scheme.
• The charger will be able to deliver 7.2 KW of power to the car an hour
• The charger is fully controlled via the EO smart app which will provide all information about the charge put into the car and logging the information.
• The Charger also has an automatic feature to link in with off Peak cheap rate tariffs.
• Built in Earth protection so no earth rods required.

We got an eniro early February and a podpoint charger. It cost us £450 for the charger including fitting. We switched our supplier to Octopus and waited about 2 months for the smart meter from them (it was during lockdown) but now we have that we can charge on cheap rate at night at home. Plug it in when I get home and it’s starts charging when the cheap rate kicks in (all pre- set up on podpoint app). Seriously hassle free - no regrets at all.

Yes I like the look of the pod point, seems a good option for us.

I’ve seen my neighbours using a type 2 connector straight into a socket on their wall but I can’t see any branding on it. It’s just a little plug cover in the wall.
