Identity fraud

I received a letter through the post yesterday advising me I needed to pay my debt talk talk which I’ve never had before. I rang them and they spoke to me and told me 2 address which were correct and another one which I had never heard of before.
I rang my husband to check we get had taken out anything in a different address or just anything. He said no!!
I new in my heart he wouldn’t but just needed to clarify this.
So I rang back the debt collectors and went back to this random address, it was in my old town Loughborough I grew up in now I haven’t lived in Loughborough for 13 years,
I new instantly who had done this, my best friend, so I rang her x partner as I new they had broken up a few months ago and clarified her address which is her old one. As this point I was fuming and contacted the police who put me through to action fraud which I had to do, this made me so upset I had to do this!
I haven’t told her I know as she will deny it, I think when she gets arrested she will say I told her that it was ok!
This letter came in my maiden name which hasn’t been for 8 years, the email was a random email she set up herself. And this was back in 2017 so the debt collectors have been searching for me for years.
I have no idea how many more she’s done.
Her x partner told me, she does child benefit fraud, addicted to slimming tablets, drinks a lot, claimed she was rapped and told lots of different stories.

Few years ago she was driving a car without tax and insurance someone crashed into her and she claimed a lot of money. God knows how!
It’s ongoing,
I feel so betrayed, lost trust in everyone, all friends, how could someone do such things.
I’m not sure if the precautions from identity fraud but surely she will get prosecuted

Any thoughts?

Sorry that a ‘friend’ has done this to you. Are you proceeding with police action?

You will probably be offered support from Victim Support. Also there may be specific support groups online for people victim of fraud/identity theft.

But sadly she is not your friend.

Yes I've proceeded with action fraud, I'm very upset and hurt. She doesn't know anything but I'm sure will do soon.
I have advised victim support will contact me
I'm just shocked as someone who i gee up with has done this to me 😞
