Is it possible to go veggie without nuts, quorn or other meat substitutes?

Just that really. I've been thinking about turning towards a more veggie lifestyle for environmental reasons for a while now but am unsure if it's practicable or sustainable. The main issue is that we can't have nuts (any kind) or quorn, and I don't like tofu or any other meat substitutes that I've tried in the past. So apart from eggs, not sure where our protein would come from.

Does anyone else manage to have a vegetarian diet without these products?

'Protein complementary' explains how to get enough protein from a vegetable based diet. The average adult needs about 60 grams of protein per day, or about 0.4 to 0.9 grams of protein per pound of body weight.

There are 4 main groups of vegetable proteins;
Beans
Legumes (chick peas, lentils)
Grains
Seeds (and nuts)

Only 2 of them are complete proteins, soya beans and quinoa. You can eat those on their own.
The rest you have to mix any two groups;
beans on toast (beans plus grains.)
mejadra (rice and lentils cooked with onions and spices.)
Bean salad with pasta.
Lentil curry with rice.

Dairy and eggs are complete proteins, and they contain other nutrients including oils and clacium. They are also low carb.

B12 supplement is only needed if going vegan as it is found in all animal products including dairy.

Protein is also found in vegetables and it is easily possible to get enough protein from them. Smile

Mushrooms are a good substitute. I love the dried ones soaked then used in a risotto or made into gravy.

Vego for more than 20 years. I only ever eat fake meat at things like BBQs, to fit in with the meat eaters.

Protein from lentils, beans, eggs, dairy etc.

Tofu’s not a meat substitute and you should try it again - it’s very dependent on how and with what it’s cooked. I eat it once or twice a week.

Yup vegan here and though I eat nuts as snacks they don’t feature in my meals much - all pulses and legumes (though I do love tofu and tempeh), very rarely have meat substitutes and don’t like quorn

We use home made tofu as a paneer substitute in curry as its easier to make it than buy paneer. Its just heated soya milk and lemon juice, catch the curds in a cloth and press them.

My DD is allergic to some nuts so doesnt eat them, and quorn doesn't agree with her either, and she is vegan. She says that the pea protein meat substitutes are much nicer than the quorn or soya ones
