eBay help please - Banned but I don't use it!

Can anyone advise please? I've had an email from eBay saying that my account was showing risky behaviour, against their standards and I have been permanently banned! If I start a new account from this address, that too will be banned. I've spoken to someone on their live chat, who has refused to lift the ban, or explain what I have done.
If I had been selling something dodgy, or bought something and cancelled the order or not paid I would understand. But I literally have NO sales or purchases! I've only used it for browsing. I have purchased in the past on a previous account but bought and paid for in full each time, no disputes. I have never sold on eBay. I started the new account when I changed email address but nothing remotely strange or dodgy.

Searching on online forums brings up "there must have been something illegal" but not only has their been nothing illegal, there has literally been nothing! I cant speak to a human, they won't engage with me at all, and I'm permanently banned! Any ideas, anyone? Thanks

Scam email delete.

Is it because you could potentially use one account to place bids on the other and force up prices? It seems crazily heavy handed if that's not what's happening..

That is the most likely explanation that they had reason to think the Op may be shill bidding.

I think that's possibly it. If I'd just been sent an email saying that a new account wasn't permitted, I would accept that!
But to ban me for life, particularly as one account has clearly never placed a bid and the second
one hasn't been used in years, is a bit heavy handed!

I got a response from a human, on Twitter! My account is reinstated! It seems that having an account with no activity triggered a bit of a risk response. I’m back! Yay! Thanks for your help mumsnetters.

Wow, well done you!!!

DH barely uses his account. As in maybe once in last 18 years. I will warn him.

Cherryblossomandcornflakes · 02/05/2021 22:12

Yep! It seems you have to buy stuff occasionally just so they know you are human. I'm now left looking at eBay thinking I really need to buy something. But what?!

I have complained via Twitter several times! It’s the only way to get a response from some companies!

lljkk · 03/05/2021 08:39

I only joined twitter so I could publicly complain at companies. It works when nothing else does.

Same!

Do you live anywhere near the address on the email?

carlycornwall · 03/05/2021 09:42

I wish I had the issue of not buying enough on eBay! There must be some random lightbulbs or batteries you need. Failing that, phone screen protectors are always needed here.

Glad it's sorted. Smile
