I need to get rid but I need to try and use my credits up.
All I seem to pick is total rubbish. Stupid unrealistic stories with a twist. I even hated that Richard Osman story everyone raves about.

Most of the things I’ve enjoyed are things I’ve already listened to on the BBC (the Cazelets, Poirot).

Anything good. I like murder mysteries but open to suggestions.

I couldn't stand Thursday murder club either.

Try just one damned thing after another by Jodi Taylor. Have just finished listening to the series. Couldn't stop.

Maybe a stupid suggestion but I love Agatha Christie so have been listening to Marple (after all the Poirots!)

I also have Sherlock Holmes on there, even though I have read (and watched) them in all guises.

Have a look at Helen Fields. She has a series which starts with The perfect death. I read the whole series in 6 weeks.

Love it.

I'm struggling to find a new series to read now.

"Briefs Encountered", written and read by Julian Clary. It's a two timeline story, one in the 19202-50s and featuring a re-imagined Noel Coward, and present day actor, Richard Stent. There's murder and ghosts, too.

Apart from the overuse of "staring" and "gazing" that the editor should have picked up, it's a delight, and Clary knows how to read aloud, which lots of authors can't.

I love it, it's my comfort audio book.

I loved Miss Benson’s Beetle by Rachel Joyce: it’s a wonderful book and is read by Juliet Stevenson.

Surrogate by Susan Spindler (also Juliet Stevenson: I love her and the book was horribly addictive)

In a totally different vein, I really enjoyed Peter 2.0 by Peter Scott-Morgan, a true story of a man with motor neurone disease using technology to make himself into a cyborg. It’s amazing and inspiring and left me feeling different about lots of things.

I can recommend Playing Nice by J P Delaney (suspense thriller) and also The Paramedics Daughter by Tara Lyons (also suspense thriller type thing)

I really enjoyed them both.

Some super ideas. Thank you!

Started with Surrogate as I do love Juliet Stephenson!

Just finished The Testaments by Margaret Atwood. Absolutely superb but you probably need to do the handmaids tale first.

FakeColinCaterpillar · 01/05/2021 23:32

I heard that on the BBC @ilovetomatoes but exactly up my street.

Rivers of London! It's a series and it is excellent. It's a police drama with magical elements, highly recommended!

One I just finished and loved is Between two kingdoms by Suleika Jaouad.
I loved the book itself and also loved her narration which is very important to me with audiobooks.
