Hi all. I'm after advice on which AirPods to get DH. I can see a few different types but totally clueless as to which are better.
Thanks!

I have the AirPod pro and love them. They have the rubber insert so they stay in your ear much better and I think they provide better sounds due to the better seal.

I’ve recommended them to lots of other people - I love them.

It does depend whether you want noise cancelling or not, I have the normal ones as I still like to be aware of what's going on round me and use them all the time, I hardly feel I've got them in. Not sure I'd like the feel of the rubber plug ones.

I got the ear pod pros and they are fab for when I go running. I had a cheep fake pair from Amazon and they never connected properly so splashed out as a treat on the real apple pros.
I also use them with my work phone to make calls and it’s usefully having the noise cancelling feature. I used my NHS discount which made them the same price as the normal ear pods with the wireless charging case. What ‘use’ does he want from them? Running, making calls listening to music? That might help you decide.

I’ve got the airpod pro ones. Haven’t tried others. I absolutely love them, which is frankly a huge surprise to me cos I’ve always disliked other earbud/ in ear headphones.
I switch between the noise cancelling and transparent modes so I can choose if I want to hear what’s going on around me, or if I want to retreat into a bubble. Noise cancelling is particularly useful if I wear them when in the kitchen as our kettle sounds like a plane taking off, and noisy taps running etc would mean otherwise I’d be turning the volume right up.
They connect perfectly every time when I put them in. I love that taking one out pauses what I’m listening to (vast improvement on scrabbling around with wet hands for the pause button on my phone, dropping it on the floor etc). And it starts up again if I put the single earbud back in again soonish. They just work really well. And the charging case is great.

I think it entirely depends on your ears

I prefer OG AirPods as they fit my ears perfectly. I hate the earbud tips of AirPods Pro

Thanks all. You've given me so much useful info.

He would be using them to take calls and to listen to music whilst working. He works with a drill, so I think the noise cancelling ones would be useful for him.

I've the AirPod Pro.
They're great, and very comfortable.

I HATE the noise canceling feature, since you can still hear noises from far away, but they sound inside your ears. So I always use the transparent mode.

The only negative, is that there is no button to raise/lower the volume. So when you're out for a walk and a noisy truck passes by, there's no quick way to raise the volume for a minute.
But it's great not to have wires, and I'm delighted I got them.

@TanName

Can I be cheeky and ask where you for yours from? I get an nhs discount too so might consider if offer is still on.

TagsMum · 01/05/2021 11:01

Although I'm currently looking at the 2nd generation and they look pretty good...? Honestly I'm terrible with stuff like this.

I would ask him, but I'm planning on it being a surprise for him. Although I know he would be happy with any of them.

@dappledsunshine
Sorry I have only just seen your message. I got them directly from apple. They have a nhs discount website. You can get to it via health service discount or if you use an NHS computer. If your type apple nhs discount into google you should be able to find it.

@TanName
