What's been your best work perk?

I was reminded on one of those fb nostalgia posts about Luncheon Vouchers. In my first job I got luncheon vouchers as a perk. I think it was about 50p a day. The idea was you put them towards buying your lunch and in those days (1989) lots of places accepted them in payment. It was a nice perk if the job at the time and I'd save mine up and go for a pizza once every couple of months. It seems like an ancient concept now.

I then moved to work at M&S head office where the perks were amazing and legendary - hairdresser; chiropodist; staff discount; medical area like a full-on hospital with nurse; discount; fed at all lunches and breaks (and after work if you wanted!) for £10 a month. I think I lucked out perk-wise there.

What have your best perks at work been? Official or unofficial Grin

I am a teacher and the excellent sick pay and pension are definite benefits and not something I noticed until I was diagnosed with cancer. It is such a relief to know my son and husband will be covered by my pension when I die and that I can be off while feeling so ill and not worry about money. Feel for people who do not have sick pay I don’t know how we would cope.

Not in the same league as many but in the 90's I had a contract at Smithkline Beecham in Brentford. The staff restaurant was used by the execs and the American bigwigs whenever they came over. Best food I ever had on a daily basis and at rock-bottom prices. When my contract ended I tried to get away with my pass just so I could go back and eat there. Sadly missed to this day :(

I’ve had accommodation, all bills paid, private health care and offer of school/uni fees for children if needed! There were high expectations of the staff in return though. Another gave us two pensions, one non contributory and then matched our salary contribution for the other. They did accommodation and free holiday home rentals too! Sadly I don’t work in that field anymore for such great perks!

First job, big company in London: free 3 course lunch (they even did packed lunches if you wanted one), social club which cost bugger all, which then provided Olympic sized swimming pool (was not Maplins), squash court, gym, movies, highly subsidised bar in which you could get pissed every lunchtime should you so choose. Plus country club which also had all the above.

Worked for an off licence head office, often got free wine.

5 months full pay maternity leave and then 4 months half pay. When we returned from maternity, worked 3 days a week for the first 2 months but got full pay. Plus subsidised food.

Other job, the jollies we had. If we fancied a trip to another office, we'd take a half day off to travel, visit the other office for a couple of hours and then have a slap up meal, get pissed together and then sleep in a nice hotel. Go into the other office for a couple of hours and then fuck off home.

I work for a company that give you month off paid when you have been there for ten years

term time only
unlimited book loans for me and family
a great boss/team who are understanding of family commitments - definitely feels like a perk !
