Mild tasting toothpaste?

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 30/04/2021 20:18

DD 6yo is starting to get her adult teeth in and our dentist has stressed we must use adult toothpaste for her.

She currently has some Aquafresh as we thought she would like the stripe in it but she finds it too strongly minty.

Any recommendations for a standard adult toothpaste with a mild flavour?

Colgate makes a coconut toothpaste. You can buy it in Home Bargains.

We used the strawberry one from tesco

The OHP toothpaste you buy from the (nhs) dentist is very mild. We get given this out once or twice a year at school, none of my kids like it though Hmm

The oral b sensitive one, in the blue and pink tube is also very mild.

Boots Smile is very mild. One of my DC will only use this. My other DC cannot tolerate any mint at all. She uses Oranurse flavourless toothpaste from Amazon.

FreezerBird · 30/04/2021 20:29

We use oranurse for DD because it's non-foaming but it's also flavourless. It took me a while to break the association of minty-ness with fresh breath and convince myself that her teeth really are clean...

It’s very individual but try the following (if you get age 6+ kids tpaste it has the same amount of fluoride as adult paste 1450ppm)
Sensodyne pronamel kids
Colgate maximum cavity protection (purple box/tube)
Aquafresh big teeth or aquafresh advance

Our dentist says the children’s berry one from Sainsbury’s has enough fluoride. The Sainsbury’s basics adult toothpaste is also mild.

NannyR · 30/04/2021 20:34

The aquafresh little teeth and big teeth toothpastes contain the same amount of fluoride as adult toothpaste, but have a milder flavour.

redcandlelight · 30/04/2021 20:35

look at the flouride contents on thd children's toothpaste. there are some that have the recommended amount

4PawsGood · 30/04/2021 20:36

Yes. This is the amount you need
www.nhs.uk/conditions/fluoride/

The berry one I mentioned has enough. I think your dentist is unaware that some have enough.

dementedpixie · 30/04/2021 20:38

Lots of kids toothpastes have the required fluoride level which is 1450ppm.
My ds likes Crest mild mint but I can only find it is Savers stores
Sensodyne does a mild mint too or Oranurse is unflavoured

redcandlelight · 30/04/2021 20:42

lidl does a herb fresh one that dc like. it's not minty bug has a slighg anisseed taste.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 30/04/2021 20:47

Wow thanks! To be fair to my dentist, it is probably easier for her just to tell parents to use adult TP rather than get into ppm of fluoride, which not everyone will understand or remember.

That is great and I will keep this thread handy next time I go to the supermarket 😊

My dd is not keen on mint, or the whole toothbrushing situation really! We've just started using Oranurse with a really tiny bit of mint toothpaste so that the mint flavour is diluted.

Rno3gfr · 30/04/2021 21:29

Sensodyne is very mild mint
