Best flat shoes for plantar fasciitis?

It’s ruining my life, after a day of shopping I’m in absolute agony and can’t even get off the sofa. My heel and ankles hurt 😩

I wear a lot of 50s dresses with or without tights and normally just wear cheap flat ballet shoes. I really need to find something comfortable but that doesn’t look old as I’m only 30.

Thank y ou!

Unfortunately I find crocs and trainers help the most. Usually with thickish soles. Definitely not converse, my docs are okay but not great. New rocks are great. I try and avoid being barefoot indoors, crocs work fine as slippers and minimise pain when I’m wearing docs outside the house.

Those tens machines for feet worked for me, I was pleasantly surprised. I put the setting really high and do both feet once a day minimum when it’s really hurting.

Customised insoles from a podiatrist. I tried everything but nothing worked until I got these, they can be put in any shoe and wearing them every day cured my PF totally.

Fit flops

MrsWooster · 30/04/2021 18:54

I second fit flops-and you can get ballet ones.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 30/04/2021 18:55

Sorry to say that crocs cured my pf 😫. You don’t have to have the ugly clogs, I had the flip flops.

Samanabanana · 30/04/2021 18:56

Ballet flats will ruin your feet even without plantar fasciitis! Birkenstocks have great support. Decent trainers. Clarks shoes always have a decent insole too!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/04/2021 18:58

Ballet type flats will be about the worst thing possible. You need something you can fit arch supports inside.

When I had PF I wore arch supports inside shoes for several weeks - found them in Boots - they worked. That was several years ago and I’ve never had it since.

notnowbernadette · 30/04/2021 18:59

Birkenstocks or trainers are good.

EloiseTheFirst · 30/04/2021 18:59

Vionics. They're expensive but worth every penny.

MamaWeasel · 30/04/2021 19:01

Also second birkenstocks, though new ones take a while to break in.

52andblue · 30/04/2021 19:01

Ditch the ballet flats / fitflops / converse - they offer no arch support.

You need a good supportive insole or you will need custom orthotics in time (expensive and a nuisance).

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 30/04/2021 19:02

Another vote for birkenstocks. I used to have recurring plantar fasciitis and kept having to remember to do all kinds of different exercises to remedy the situation. Then I started wearing birkenstocks all the time and haven't had a problem since.

EventuallyDistracted · 30/04/2021 19:02

I think Croc flip flops caused mine, I can no longer wear normal Crocs either they don't have enough support. Trainers or boots with orthotic inserts or Birkenstocks are my preferred footwear now.

AuntieDolly · 30/04/2021 19:05

Fitflops for me too. I've got boots, trainers sandals and slippers. Never go barefoot

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/04/2021 19:10

My podiatrist recommended Crocs. They also suggested buying shoes that cover a lot of the upper side of my feet and going to a specialist sports footwear shop where they do gait analysis and properly fit your trainers.

schroeder · 30/04/2021 19:11

Crocs in the house, boo boo buddies 15 minutes every evening and then either proper trainers with arch support or shoes with a footbed like keens, Camper or something.

Nuffaluff · 30/04/2021 19:20

I have some gorgeous fit flops that are patent red snakeskin look loafers. Had loads of compliments. Wearing them is walking on clouds.

RoobyMyrtle · 30/04/2021 19:26

These cured mine. I recommend them every time these thread come up 😁 They'd go well with your style too. www.cheerfulsoles.co.uk/alegria-paloma-black-nappa.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw1a6EBhC0ARIsAOiTkrHuufF5c2YRfd2Fz3uTU5WwXtETs4dxL1b-Ix8QYz5asWx31GXOhcAaAoH1EALw_wcB

SpringtimeSummertime · 30/04/2021 19:30

Birkenstocks! Sorry OP! 😅
I used to wear ballet flats and they are just too flat.

Zoorhik · 30/04/2021 19:58

I live in fitflops. I had planter fasciitis too. Fitflops are sooooo great!
OrchidLass · 30/04/2021 20:10

My GP told me that mine was caused by wearing ballet flats. I have a couple of Fitflop ballet flats and they're amaaaaaazing. Like wearing slippers.

DearPrudence · 30/04/2021 20:12

A combination of Fit Flops and thick-soled, supportive trainers cured mine.

linerforlife · 30/04/2021 20:41

Before you resign yourself to ugly shoes for life... stand on your bottom stair, and put your toes on the edge of the stair and let your heel hang down over the edge. Hold the wall /bannister. You'll feel a very strong stretch in your calf. Do it 3 x a day for the next week and I promise your feet will feel 20000 x better and you won't need to wear crocs Grin

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 30/04/2021 20:49

You can't wear flat shoes with plantar fasciitis you need a curved (rocker bottom sole). Your horrible ballet pumps will have probably caused the problem.
I'd like to put all ballet flats on a huge bonfire, I hate them.
I've had people moaning because they can't get insoles/casted orthotics into the damned things. I won't treat them unless they ditch them.
The shoes I've put in here are ugly but show you what a rocker bottom sole is. There are loads of them on amazon with different shoe types attached to the soles.
