What are your strengths and skills? Did you do a levels or go to uni? Have you worked previously? What industry would you like to work in?

misslomi · 29/04/2021 10:56

Is it for a future career or just for fun?

What are your interest? What are you good at?

Anyideas87 · 29/04/2021 11:12

I was a nanny, I have certificate's in that area.
I'm not wanting to return to it for a few reason's

  • at the end of the week I was only $33 up after childcare fee's (that's when I decided to become a stay at home mum)
  • It not practical if my kid's get sick or school holiday's

I dont know if I'm being a fool and wanting to study for a future career, because of what a friend of mine said when I told her I'd like to study she said I'm to old to study at 34 and it's playing on my mind.

No no no you are definitely not too old. I'm late 30s and studying right now alongside working. I'm loving it. Follow your dream.

Do you want to study something totally different or something with children again?

rainbowandglitter · 29/04/2021 11:17

How about..
Creative writing
Accountancy
Law
Something with animals
Teaching assistant
Health care assistant
Personal trainer
Social worker

Yellowhighheels · 29/04/2021 11:19

What interests you, would you like to continue working with children? If so, depending what level of qualification you want to do, you could work towards a career in teaching, social services, paediatric nursing, teaching assistant, allied healthcare, you could do an Early Years degree... it would really help to narrow down the areas that you would like a career in.

Yellowhighheels · 29/04/2021 11:19

And 34 is definitely not too old!

misslomi · 29/04/2021 11:20

You are definitely not too old to study! I am a couple of years younger than you and I am studying accounting. I work with people in their 40s who are still studying.

mateysmum · 29/04/2021 11:26

Apart from What you want to study think about Why. If it's just for pleasure then go for what interests you and don't worry about any qualifications. If it's for a future career think about what you want from that future. Do you need specific qualifications? Do you just need a degree of any kind? How will the study hours fit round your life? Home study or college?
There are so many different options out there. Good luck but you need to narrow things down a bit.

FrancesFlute · 29/04/2021 11:36

You've talked about $, are you in the UK?
It's just that if you're not, posters may give advice/suggestions for qualifications/modes of study that don't exist where you are? Could you give us a bit more detail? Smile

Tickledtrout · 29/04/2021 11:39

Have a look through Futurelearn op. thousands of free short courses and ones you can pay for too. See what takes your fancy

Anyideas87 · 29/04/2021 11:44

I'm happy to hear I'm not to old to studySmile.

No I don't want to return to working with children as much as I once enjoyed it I'd like to try something different.

I've asked family members study idea's and why they think it's a good fit for me I've been told,
From my little sister
-party planner (because you know how to host kid's party's)
From my husband

  • therapists (because everyone comes to you with their issues may as well get paid)
From my mum
  • retail (don't worry about studying just get a job during school hours)
From my older sister
  • start an online business making candles, soaps, I can't remember what else she mentioned.

I've told 1 friend after her response I wasn't sure I'd want to ask anymore friend's for opinions.

Twickle · 29/04/2021 11:51

English?

Anyideas87 · 29/04/2021 11:56

@twinkle an English course might be a good idea. Seeing as I'm dyslexic

OP posts:
supercritter · 29/04/2021 11:57

Second futurelearn pick a course that interests you and see how it goes. Just get back into learning and wait to see if something grabs you that you want to pursue as a career for when kids older

lljkk · 29/04/2021 11:59

From those suggestions I get these ideas what are OP's skills:

Good Listener
Empathetic
Problem-solving
Practical
Cheerful, people oriented
Mild risk taking (in positive way)
Good organisational skills
resourceful/resilient

Do you think you have a caring or 'helper' personality, OP?

Anyideas87 · 29/04/2021 12:06

Thank you all for your replies.

I'm going to go and have a look at futurelearn.

Have a lovely night Smile

I'm in a similar situation and am enrolling on an AAT accountancy course with First Intuition , they're doing 20% off at the moment. It's modular so you can stop after level 2 and get an accounts role /bookkeeper or you can keep going until you're a qualified accountant (I highly doubt I'll do all of it but you never know )!
