Food throwing / weaning

When does it stop or of its meant to have stopped by now, how i do stop it?? They're nearly. 17 months.

They used to eat great but have recently got really fussy so throw anything they don't like on the floor. Telling them no, saying stop etc, none of it works. Surely they should have stopped by now and be putting more actual food into their actual mouths??

Also means eating out or on the go is a nightmare as they just drop it out the side of the buggy onto the floor.

No, stop etc elicit peals of laughter!

They're just experimenting.

Give 2 options. if they won't eat it then just clear it away calmly and carry on.

So long as you're providing the food they won't starve if that's what you're worried about.

Don't give snacks between meals though just water for the time being till it's resolved.

Just a phase like everything is. Just give the food in stages and laugh along with them when they fling it at you Grin

Yeah, what PP above has said. It’s even worse if you have dogs, because feeding doggy is fucking hilarious.

Don't stress about it.

And they just want to have fun.

Sounds like you have a happy baby so enjoy that side of things.

Divineswirls · 29/04/2021 09:32

Happy baby also means you're doing a great job as a mum.

It's really normal and really frustrating. DC2 has stopped, she's 2 and a bit, I think she stopped before 2. We didn't do anything to stop it other than stop the meal (take her out of the highchair, clean her up etc) even if she hadn't eaten anything. Now she says "don't want it" when she has finished.

SleepingStandingUp · 29/04/2021 10:53

I'd love a dog because when I said THEY I wasn't hiding their gender / sex, i meant there was more than 1 😂. They're a nightmare!!

I spend most of my life clearing up food flung around the living room, kitchen is not big enough for two highchairs but my God once it's warm they're eating in the garden.

But then we'll get rats.

Maybe a goat would work?

I think it's a cute albeit a very frustrating phase! They'll eventually get over it but I would try not to have a reaction too much i.e so you don't get the laughter which encourages them more.

Just drives me potty when they've not even eaten anything, twin2 has just decided this is more fun! The only food safe from eviction is cherry tomatoes

And yesterday he was literally biting a bit off his apple, taking it out his mouth and throwing it. Like SO MUCH EFFORT

Frustratingly, it's quite an important schema and is part of developing spatial awareness (depth)
You've probably got the entertaining the other twin factor going on too.

I found it easier with DS2 knowing that it was a developmenral phase rather than being naughty.

Alas my floor still doesn't stay clean as DS1 has dyspraxia and is a messy eater.
