Um, did anyone just see that programme about leprechauns?

There's just been a programme on the telly about leprechauns and fairies, and all these people explaining your best chance of seeing one 😯

In case anyone is interested - it's either the beginning of May or late summer because that's when they're changing from summer to winter quarters. And at twilight.

And there'was a man talking about having seen 3 of them sitting on a rock having a chat. And one of them was called Carrick and there's only 236 of them left in the world.

The leprechaun was called Carrick. I'm not sure what the man was called but he looked a bit like Louis Walsh.

I want to see it! What channel?

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/04/2021 20:35

Much as I like the Icelandic tradition of faerie houses and such... it's not real. You know that, right?

ExJasper · 28/04/2021 20:36

They were all so serious! The programme has finished but I'm like this still > 😯

Well @MrsTerryPratchett it has occurred to me that the beginning of May is nearly upon us - I feel a trip to Ireland coming on :)

Was the man called Darby?

Faez · 28/04/2021 20:40

I was looking for some trashy true crime on CBS but when I saw the description I went with Bob’s Burgers

Apparently lots of Icelanders do believe in trolls, fairies etc.

We had a guided tour of one of the Icelandic glaciers and the guide was equally serious talking about geology and mythology.

"And here is the terminal moraine deposited by the glacier as it slowly moves under gravity. And there is the large rock thrown by the Troll-queen at her husband when they argued about his affection for the Troll daughter of another tribe"

Skyliner001 · 28/04/2021 20:42

Oh my god I love that 💚

Yes but who's going to argue with a Viking? Grin

This is the man who speaks to leprechauns. I think his name is, believe it or not, Kevin 😁

I met a Selkie one night when I came in from kayaking. We shared a bag of chips. Beautiful moment.

I wouldn't share my chips with anyone 😯

I really want some now as well!

This man was also on the programme. He had a motorway diverted I think in order to save a fairy hedge. (He actually referred to it as a "fairy bush" but I notice they've changed the terminology in the reports).

Lots of people still feel very strongly about fairy trees here in Ireland. These days that's because unbaptised babies would have been buried under them in times gone by and of course it's considered as wrong to disturb them.
ExJasper · 29/04/2021 10:22

@GreenSlide I didn't know that, that's very sad. And, yes, of course it would be awful to disturb them.
