Bathroom inspiration needed

A little wary of posting here and being recognised hence the name change, but here goes!
And posting here for traffic.

This is our (horrible) bathroom in rented accommodation, please no comments on the contents of the bathroom, I've took a picture exactly as it is this moment in time for a true representation of how depressing it actually is.

We are in rented accommodation so can't do what I'd really like and that's rip the whole thing out and start again.

It was a wet room previously, so the floor, which is a horrible brown-ish/tan colour, and fixed. Can't be changed.

I want to give it a fresh look costing as little as possible, somewhere i can allow guests and not feel embarrassed and ashamed.

Its a small space and behind the door is a bath with an over head shower (regularly floods)

What can MN suggest for cheap ways of refreshing and decorating (and where to source things cheaply!)

Im thinking plain white tiles, and the blue you see on the wall isn't my tester but I can see how it might freshen it up! - except I think the horrible, depressing floor might clash with an airy blue.

Please feel free to attach inspirational pictures and thanks for being kind, in advance!

I would paint the walls in strong white, I think that will neutralise the tiles so you could live with them.
A tall unit, I have seen them that go over the toilet that would give a nice focus point or maybe a unit next to it? A new unit under the sink or paint it/nee handles?
A big white bath mat, some green plants for some shelves or window?

Re the behind the door picture it would be work paying a handy man to reseal it. Also invest in a new shower head that's chunky and modern.

Worth paying that should say

Looking at the colour of the tiles I would go for white, natural wood and plants!

We have those tiles, we have whitish flooring and white walls and I've gone with an Africa theme of giraffes and patterns which are bold on the towels in cream and mustard. It's looks okay and better than having to paint the tiles.

I’m in a house decor group on Facebook and lots of people have bought self adhesive tiles from Dunelm that look quite effective.

They are called Floorpops

Newbie question, do I grout first then tile paint?

If you are going to paint the tiles you need to thoroughly clean especially all the grout, buy a good quality tile paint and put it on with a small roller not a brush as you will get brush marks, thin coats rather than one thick one otherwise it will just peel. It took us about 3 coats. Then once dry you can use the grout pen.
