DS (15 months) was poorly about a week and a half ago with what was diagnosed as a viral infection. We were in hospital for a bit with a really high fever but hospital wasn't overly worried and said he had a very red throat so viral throat infection.
He came home, everything normalised after a day or two. After about a week, he started getting very red cheeks, like really bright. Not all day, it kind of just suddenly happens - they feel very very warm to touch and when I take his temperature it's elevated but not a fever (hospital said 38 would be classed as a fever upon discharge).
He's well in himself, he's eating, drinking, wet nappies, sleeping, playing, whining, all the usual! :) So seems fine. But we've had this cycle for a few days now, wakes up fine, cheeks get progressively redder throughout the day, wakes up from his nap with an elevated temperature but it usually goes down again without any medicine and never reaches 38 (or hasn't yet since we first came out of hospital).
I called the GP when it first happened and he wasn't overly worried as DS is still acting normally, said to keep an eye and get in touch if it goes up to a fever and we can't manage it with calpol and nurofen.
I thought it was teething initially, because of the way the cheeks get red and then go back to normal, but today DS was so warm he was on the borderline for a fever so we gave him calpol and it came down a bit but he was still running warmer than usual, and my friend suggested it could be slapped cheek.
Do red cheeks come and go with this? I was under the impression that they would stick around and he would get another rash with it.
I'm worried incase it's linked to his previous hospital stay as that seems a long time to be getting elevated temperatures, but he had a break inbetween where he was back to normal instead of being tired.
Weirdly I know another little boy who has had the exact same experience, hospital stay and everything, recently, but his elevated temperature came back after a week and then went away completely, so this part isn't the same.
Just wondered if it sounded like Slapped Cheek? I'm going to see how the next day or so goes then phone the GP back if this continues.
