Spoon or knife?

Please settle a debate? Do you have a spoon or a knife to go with your spaghetti/tagliatelle? I was only allowed a spoon as I child and then used a knife but friends think I'm weird?

I just use a fork, what do you use the knife for?

A spoon and fork is what I use. I swirl the pasta onto my fork using the bowl of the spoon.

I just use a fork. We used to stay in Italy a lot when i was little (the 70's) with a family there and they didn't use knives or spoons .

Confused starting to think my parents are a bit mad

Fork only here.

Fork only but have seen spaghetti twirled with a fork on a spoon. Why would you need a knife?

There's a reason why but can't remember. I'll text my mum 😂

If I'm at home so don't bother about getting messy then I only use a fork. If I'm in a restaurant then I use a fork and spoon.

ShutUpAlex · 27/04/2021 19:00

Just a fork.

Apparently using a spoon is how Italians spot foreigners as it’s an odd thing to do.

KFleming · 27/04/2021 19:00

I use a knife and fork, and chop up the pasta. Does that make me terribly uncivilised?

Although when Dd was little I'd cut up long pasta with scissors and give her a spoon.

leeds2glasgow · 27/04/2021 19:03

I've googled it. It's neither!! Some people think it's posher to use a knife rather than the spoon, but both are frowned upon 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn't eat spaghetti in public, no-one needs to see that.Blush

Knife for DH because the heathen chops it up, DD uses a spoon because she can’t quite twirl yet but just a fork for me.
