Capri Sun straws

Capri Sun have replaced their straws with paper ecologically sound straws. That is great for the environment but they just disintegrate. We are going to stop buying Capri Sun for our picnics because by the time the dc are halfway through, the straw has turned to mush. Anyone else having this problem?

Me Grin I was debating the other day keeping hold of a plastic one just to use in future instead of the paper one. They either disintegrate or bend in half when trying to pierce the packet.

FlibbertyGiblets · 27/04/2021 15:50

Ummmmmm does Capri Sun still come in flexi plasticky pouches?

imnottoofussed · 27/04/2021 15:58

Yes exactly, but I guess they think it is the straw thats been randomly disposed of and causing more pollution and not the actual packet

rainbowthoughts · 27/04/2021 15:59

Yep. They are not recyclable. It's aluminium and plastic layers or something similar.

Absolute joke they are now providing a completely useless straw but the whole carton gets binned.

BitchIAmFromChicago · 27/04/2021 16:00

They are the most limp straws ever! They’re not even strong enough to pierce the hole! Grin

imnottoofussed · 27/04/2021 16:01

even the plastic one was a struggle to be honest Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 27/04/2021 16:02

I have this issue with McDonald's straws in a milk shake. They go soggy and you can't suck them.

idontlikealdi · 27/04/2021 16:04

We've stopped buying them. I'm all for reducing plastic but hte kids can't pierce them open anymore. I used to freeze the in the summer to act as ice packs but there's no chance you'd get it into a frozen one!

I'm amazed they pushed it through QC.

Chatanooga1 · 27/04/2021 16:07

I went through a drive thru - I think it was a Burger King and when I ordered I asked about the straws and was told they were paper soo declined a cold drink and had a hot chocolate and I asked for sugar sachets.

They gave me a hard plastic stirrer which upon inspection was hollow and therefore could be used as a drinking straw.

I have kept it and keep it in the car, taking it in to wash it out on the couple of times since that I have used it when buying a soft drink whilst out.

It’s only short but would be perfect for those sachet drinks that you are describing.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/04/2021 16:09

Capri Sun saved me the bother by putting sweetners in a few years ago Grin

PostLockdownLife · 27/04/2021 16:11

Anyone over forty could have told the millennials this would happen for we had paper straws as children, they didn't care for the disabled or anything, apparently this drop in the ocean action will save the entire ecosystem, problem solved.

Mamette · 27/04/2021 16:15

Well unless the Lidl-own ones do the same then I won’t be too worried.

purpleme12 · 27/04/2021 16:18

Ah what! I didn't know there were new straws but I can well believe they'd go soggy they always do! This has really annoyed me

EmotionallyEncumbered · 27/04/2021 16:21

Plastic straw ban in England comes into force www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-54366461

They probably don't have a choice. Supplying plastic straws is now banned in England. The paper ones are rubbish but not sure what the alternative is.

Xiaoxiong · 27/04/2021 16:43

I bought the kids capri suns the other day when we were on a walk, but destroyed the straws trying to stab them into the packet! Kind of defeats the purpose of buying something you can drink out and about!!

MonkeyNotOrgangrinder · 27/04/2021 16:46

The alternative is buying your kids some reusable drinks bottles and filling them with squash or water before you go out.

UseMyName · 27/04/2021 16:49

Can’t stand the feel of the straws gives me goosebumps.

The alternative is buying your kids some reusable drinks bottles and filling them with squash or water before you go out.

Disabled parents will not want to carry excessive weight for prolonged periods and may be too exhausted after the day trip having used up many 'spoons' to wash up, so they need disposable goods, this doesn't fit with the agenda of other people, who aren't going to carry and wash up for the disabled when it's easier to only view their world as they live, tweet the government and virtue signal.

MargaretThursday · 27/04/2021 17:17

Number of times I managed to go straight through and pierce the packet the other side too!

I loved the lemon and lime one, but they stopped doing that a very long time ago.

HepLaurenceLB · 27/04/2021 17:19

Judging by these replies I would not like to have stock in Capri Sun right now.

@MonkeyNotOrgangrinder that was a very unhelpful comment. If someone complained about an M&S sandwich or a ready meal would you point out that people can make them themselves?

I buy a Capri sun as a treat

Ilovemaisie · 27/04/2021 17:35

Yes they are a pain. The carton milkshakes I buy (moo milk?) have also gone paper. My daughter got so annoyed with the straw that I had to put the milkshake in a cup for her. I was disappointed to discover that the strawberry milkshake wasn't pink. Just didn't feel right Grin
You can get Capri Sun as a bottle squash now though.....

Jennifer2021 · 27/04/2021 17:51

Me. Absolute pain to try and get it in the carton thing to start with.
