Has anyone had any luck countering thinning hair/ageing skin with diet changes?

I'm feeling quite down about my thinning hair and rapidly ageing skin. I'm 43 and definitely perimenopausal (constant itching, night sweats, insomnia, mood swings, horrendous periods etc)

I can't afford expensive skin serums or shampoos that cost £££, so I'm trying to include things in my diet that are supposed to help - walnuts, eggs, oily fish etc

Has anyone had any success, especially with the hair thinning? I feel quite desperate, I'm not normally at all vain but it's really noticeable, especially at the front hairline and it's embarrassing Sad

Meant to add, if anyone can recommend anything that doesn't cost a bloody fortune, I'd be grateful Smile

I was recommended Holland and Barrett vitamins - Super hair maximum potency. I'd never have believed it, being a cynical sort, but I gave it a go and my hair's stopped falling out... the key is biotin and other vit B.

They are about £16 for 90, but if you catch them on a 2nd for 1p offer, then it's much more manageable and obviously they are then £8 for 3 month's worth.

I think Costco might do biotin in silly quantities too.

Look into low carb high protein diet! Might give your thyroid a kick up the backside
Have you had your thyroid checked??

I noticed when my Vitamin D levels improved my hair and nails did too. High strength Vit D is available over the counter at pharmacies and is cheaper/higher strength than what you get at health food stores.

It's worth getting your thyroid checked too - mine is underactive and I can always tell if it drops a bit by my increased dry skin, thinner hair and constipation! Some Drs will need really pushing for this to be tested and have a very wide 'borderline'. If it's underactive you get ALL prescriptions free of charge forever....I think this is why they'd rather not diagnose and prescribe Thyroxine, as that, and all future meds will be free.
