Opened scam text link 🤦‍♀️

Arrrgh! I’m an idiot! Had a txt supposedly from Royal Mail saying I needed to pay a postage charge for a parcel or it wouldn’t be delivered. I couldn’t even think of any parcel I am waiting for - but still clicked the bloody link 🤦‍♀️🙄 it didn’t actually take me anywhere, just said “server couldn’t be found “
so have I done anything drastically bad? I’m not very tech savvy and I’m worried now.

I think you’re fine. From what I’ve read about this scam it’s about getting you to then enter details, which you haven’t done.

Thanks I did wonder but I was just scared that somehow it would allow them to charge something to my phone Bill.

The Royal Mail scam depends on you filling in your financial details in order to pay the fee they say that you owe. If you didn't give them any information you should be OK.

The DHL scam is much worse, and more worrying, as it downloads malwear onto your computer if you click on the link, and enables the bastard scammers to steal your bank passwords. Like the Royal Mail scam it starts by saying you owe DHL a fee.

It's fine - they can't do anything without you putting in your details.

I don’t think so - I’ve read that it’s a banking scam - you enter your details to pay the supposed Royal Mail charge, and then when you realise you’ve given your banking details to a fraudster, they pretend to be your bank helping you out with that and persuade you to move all your money ‘to keep it safe’.

Yes that’s what worried me! That malware would be downloaded. Sad

Does anyone know if IPhones are protected from malware?

Listen carefully for the sound of galloping hooves as it will be a Nigerian Prince arriving on horseback to sweep you up to carry you away to his Nigerian castle where you and he can spend the $12,0000000.00 that you have won in the Nigerian Lottery.

Congratulations.

I clicked on the DHL one last week (was expecting something) but it wanted me to download an app, which obviously I didn't do and ignored it.

I've run a security scan on my phone but I never use my phone for banking or shopping anyway so maybe I'll be OK.

MissyB1 · 27/04/2021 09:27

Ok I need to do a security scan I think.
@Chatanooga1 I’ve been waiting to be swept off my feet by a rich prince for years Grin
