Help me with DH’s hay fever!

He’s suffering and I’m sympathetic, but the sneezing and sniffing 24 hours a day is starting to drive me mad!

He’s always started with hay fever in Feb and it’s usually dwindled late summer, but the last few years it seems to hit him pretty much all year round.

He’s been to a chemist and got the strongest tablets they give out to take at night (phenegran?) and these seem to allow him a bit of sleep. But then he will usually wake up in the morning unable to breathe properly, will do about 20 sneezes and liquid will literally pour from his nose all day. He looks horrendous. He’s also a performance sneezer so I’m listening to about 50 scream sneezes a day. Sigh!

He’s been to the doctors once but it didn’t amount to anything and he was fobbed off.

Has anyone else suffered badly and found something that helped? If so, what was it? Or is there anything he can go to the doctors and request?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Just looked and it's a bit cheaper at UK meds.

Just spotted this thread. That GP sounds shite! I got fexofenadine when I made a GP appointment in despair and demanded steroids and a nose job as I just couldn't cope any more!
She was a fellow sufferer and admitted that most otc drugs were crap.
Maybe your DH can tell the gp he's itching terribly? As fexo is also prescribed for chronic itching (pruritis?).
NeilMed sinus rinse also helps.

It’s the problem with telephone appointments. If they could see they state of his face then I’m sure they’d prescribe something Grin. He now has a stye in his eye after all the itching and irritation.

You could buy them.amd them say that you want them.prescibed as they worked (if they do) such a pain with drs situation currently.

Fexafenadine plus opatanol eye drops plus a nasal spray. That’s what my nine tear old has had the last three years. Only needs the fexafenadine during winter but all three from very early spring. I also take fexafenadine all year through as I’m allergic to cats (and have many).
