Dog walking beaches Isle of Wight

We are hoping to visit the island in the summer, does anyone know of any quiet beaches where we can walk our dog away from the crowds?

Seagrove Beach is a lovely quiet place with access from the village. The village itself has a couple of cafes (Lily’s is my favourite) and good facilities. The beach is not huge and you need to watch the tide times because it all but disappears at high tide. From here you can walk along Seaview seafront to Ryde through Puckpool Park so extend your walk and enjoy the view.
Luccombe is a completely hidden gem of a beach, and the closest year-round dog-friendly beach to Shanklin Chine. It’s rarely crowded so it’s a good choice if your dog is a bit nervous. Acess is via a footpath through Luccombe Chine and then down some steep wooden steps, so flip flops might not be the best choice for this beach!
St Helen’s is quite quiet for a sandy beach. Parking is easy and theres a nice cafe where you can sit outside and watch the water world go by (ships along the Solent, just in case you were wondering). You can walk the length of the beach towards Bembridge harbour mouth when the tide is out.

Dogs year round at St Helens and Priory Bay. Priory takes more effort to reach but is possibly the prettiest beach on the island and never bustling. St Helens cafe isn’t open yet though.
Dogs year at the far end of Ryde, Appley tower on. Fantastic beach cafe that is dog friendly and backed by promenade from Ryde and park.
Bonchurch at lower tide. There’s a good walk along sea wall from Ventnor with lunch or a coffee at the Seapot - best ever crab sandwiches. You can go on along coast path to Luccombe or Shanklin (Shanklin beach not for dogs in summer).

Yaverland is dog friendly and much quieter than Shanklin or Bembridge is also dog friendly.

Not beach but fabulous off lead dog walking are Bembridge Down (ice cream van and fabulous views) and Culver Down (Historic fort, views of airfield, pub, good sea views).

Many of the dog friendly beaches are tide dependent and a bit of a climb down then up.

Another vote for Seagrove. We had a lovely holiday with dog on IOW last year.

Most beaches have dog areas

If you go over to the west Wight there’s Compton and Brook beaches - park at Compton and turn left at the bottom of the stairs

Park at Quarr Abbey, and follow the footpaths down to the beach

Hamstead

Head to Yarmouth, walk through Bouldnor forest down to the beach - you’ll have to be on lead for a bit of it though

Some good dog friendly eating places toO. Off the rails at Yarmouth likes dogs, as does the Royal in Ventnor, the Spyglass in Ventnor, Number 33 in St Helens (our favourite).

Good walking inland too.

Have a fabulous holiday.

Thank you Smile We stayed in St Helens when we got married nearly 20 years ago, didn't have a dog then though
