Do children still prank call?

Or play other prank games like Knock down Ginger?

Or is it a thing of the past now? I grew up in the 70s and 80s when it was a thing.

Don't worry @murbblurb. I don't do it anymore. I am 50 and consider myself a bit old for that kind of thing now Grin

Knock door run in Leicester when I was a kid. And too right he should get a detention.

We used to call the operator and ask to talk to Busby.

Oh yeah. I forgot about him. GrinI'm sure I referred to him as a Buzztard, too

@sunshineandshowers21

🙄 where i live kids have been cherry knocking for years! even my parents did it when they were younger. it’s a bit of fun. he obviously made the mistake of doing it up where the wannabe poshos live though. so no i don’t discipline my son for doing things that kids do! bloody hell, 13 is still a child. i’d rather him be out playing and getting into a bit of mischief than be stuck inside all day. mumsnet at its finest, crying over kids having a bit of fun.
Oh well, if it's where the "wannabe poshos" live, that's alright then. Don't suppose there are any elderly people, or parents with sleeping babies or people with mobility problems living there then?! Hmm A bit of mischief?! Teach your child some respect rather than teaching them it's okay to inconvenience people in the name of "fun"!

I had some kids doing it at my door a while back (probably about 8). I looked as cross as I could because you shouldnt encourage these things, but inside I was thinking "awww, how 90s"

apalledandshocked · 26/04/2021 18:31

And my 6 year old and his friends are allowed to do it to my door (with prior permission - slightly missing the point but still it kills time) but he would get a telling off if I caught him doing it to anyone else

Someone ginger-knocked on our front door, and smashed a pane of glass. My partner found the lad with his hand bleeding, in the park, and felt sorry for him, so didn't ask for him to pay for it. I was very cross about that; I was ready to march him back to his parents and get them to stump up, but my partner said I was overreacting.

We got the quote for new glass. £495 plus VAT.

I was at my mother in law's a couple of years ago and two lads aged about 11 knocked and asked if Ben was in - Ben Dover to be precise. I grinned so much that they had a look of "crap...she gets the joke" on the face. I did tell them that 'Ben' didn't live in the flat upstairs either and not to knock there because the bloke there is "a bit grumpy" (miserable old git in adult speak).

HappyBirthdayMrPresident · 26/04/2021 18:52

We called it chap door runaway we also used to get the international phone codes and then use them and dial a random number to try and get through to someone in that country Grin

SandysMam · 26/04/2021 18:54

I had a prank call on my mobile recently, clearly kids asking “do you lick-a-dick-a-day?” Grin and then cracking up laughing when I said every day except Sunday’s! I did have to block a few numbers then as they all tried to have a go to see what I would come out with next.

BloodyGoodRep · 26/04/2021 18:57

We call it knock and run where I’m from. I don’t really see it as fun, I’d be pissed off if a kid did it to me. Surely there’s WAY more things kids could be doing then pissing about like that (and I’m not from a posho place, I live in a council estate!)
