Is this a thing? Surely it won't come out right?

I boil potatoes in their skins then rice them. Take the skins out of the ricer as I go. Works a treat for smooth mash. I always get lumps otherwise.

I would do this as a student and called it "lazy mash". Delicious with lots of butter and a garlicky chicken kiev plonked on top.

I was astounded when it rocked up on the tasting menu for my wedding labelled as "potato crush" and they price they wanted to charge for it considering there's no extra labour of peeling to pay for 😂

I always do it. I’d like to think it’s because it mores nutritious but mostly because I hate peeling spuds.

I have a ricer which takes the chunkiest bits of skin out, but I’m not too bothered if they’re left in.

How are you finding Hello Fresh? I’m currently considering it for a couple of days a week as I have no more meal plans left in me.

Our gousto recipe this week had two garlic cloves (no skins!) in with the water to boil, then you mash it all together.
Lovely!

GreyhoundG1rl · 26/04/2021 19:28

Doesn't it taste all gritty?

RevolutionRadio · 26/04/2021 19:35

I don't know the last time I peeled a potato.

Queenoftheashes · 26/04/2021 19:38

I’ve done this since it was suggested on the Simpsons

You wash the potato and the ones hello fresh supply for this type of meal have no soil and are fairly light and thin skinned. You won't even notice it, you'll have saved time and retained some nutrients.

I think I'll try this OP

We like butter and mustard in our mash. Cream cheese is also delicious.

Bluedeblue · 27/04/2021 12:15

Well well well! I can report back that this was by far the best mash we have ever had! Me, DH and our adult DD all agreed. The recipe card suggested cutting the potatoes into pieces around 2cm (much smaller than I would normally do). The mash was not gritty, it seemed actually smoother than usual. Re whether I'd recommend Hello Fresh, this is the first meal I've done, and I'd say definitely. Portion sizes were good. It was a bit stressful following a recipe card with multiple instructions, but I would now be able to cook that meal without reading the card, so it'd be much easier 2nd time around. Every day is a school day!

One good thing about hello fresh and gousto is it can introduce you to bee recipes / foods / techniques that you might not otherwise have tried.

For us it was crispy fried chicken / fish using cornflour.
