At what point would you seek medical help? (If at all).

I have name changed as I have posted about this on my FB and I know some of my friends use MN.

Dp hasn’t drunk alcohol since his teens (now in his 30s). Met up with his friends for the first time in ages yesterday and spend the afternoon and evening drinking in the garden. They all got carried away and drunk too much. He doesn’t know how much he drunk but said there was lots of beer, shots etc.

He had stopped by 11pm last night and had a big water before bed but feels awful now.

He knows he was an idiot to drink so much and now remembers why he hasn’t got drunk like this for so many years.

He says he feels the worst he’s ever felt with a hangover and is struggling to keep anything down. He’s been sick 4 times and says he can’t face food. He can’t even sit up without everything spinning and said he feels too unwell to even watch tv etc.

He’s had a dioralite sachet and is now having his second. He can only take small sips and says he’s fighting throwing up the whole time.

What else can he have/do? Does there come a point when he might need to seek some sort of medical help?

Google NHS alcohol poisoning symptoms if he has any of those up to A and E pronto, otherwise let him sleep it off....

Was it warm where you are OP? I'd be concerned about sunstroke if so

imaginethemdragons · 25/04/2021 19:36

111 for advice.
Sips of fluids, ice lollies fluids fluids fluids.

I would get medical help. Sounds like it could be alcohol poisoning or heat Stoke. Sounds like more than a hangover to me

PastelLampshade · 25/04/2021 20:38

He’s now managed to keep down a packet of crisps and a banana too. He says he’s feeling a tiny bit better which I am relieved about. It was about 17 degrees yesterday. He was only about 20 minutes away so I am assuming the temperature was similar where he was!

I would not seek medical help unless he was absolutely unable to keep down any fluids for 24h

It's just a very bad hangover. They might put up a drip up in A&E if he was really dehydrated but I'd be lying if I said people would not be judgy about it.

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 25/04/2021 20:45

Sounds like a bad hangover

EggysMom · 25/04/2021 20:47

It's not just a bad hangover, it's a bad hangover for somebody who hasn't had a hangover for years. It'll be horrible but he'll get through it.

ZoeMaye · 25/04/2021 20:47

Well if he's kept some food and dioralite down he'll probably be fine. Some more fluids, a can of coke can be good for a hangover.

Boomchicka · 25/04/2021 20:49

Too much beer, and sun! The sun was hot yesterday and even though it was only 18° as you say, I burnt!

Chihuahuacat · 25/04/2021 20:51

I’ll admit myself and DH did the same a couple of weekends ago.

The worst hangover I’ve had in a long long time - he had to stay in bed until about 8pm and threw up a couple of times.

Keep hydrated, try some food, but time is the only thing that will really help - he’ll feel rubbish for a few days. (I’ve remembered why I don’t drink that much).

PastelLampshade · 26/04/2021 12:29

Thanks everyone. He managed to eat some food last night and slept. He still feels like crap today and hasn’t been able to work. He He’s going to try and eat something now and hope he feels better later.🤞🏼
