If the organiser of a meeting records it, can a participant press record and keep their own copy, so to speak?

No I think it is only the organiser or host. Unless you use screen capture software separate to zoom.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 25/04/2021 17:57

i think evreyone needs to agree, and, afaik, you can only keep a copy for a couple of weeks, prepared to be proved wrong

Redcrayons · 25/04/2021 17:59

Only the host can record and you can save it to your computer for as long as you like. Not sure about the online recordings

ARudeTerriblePerson · 25/04/2021 18:01

Hmm, thanks. Bit frustrating though! Can the organiser send round a copy, as it were? I am in a small class led by a tutor; can he send us a session he records, I wonder?

I think the host can give you permission to record, though it may vary depending on the exact setup. And yes they should be able to send a copy of the recording also. The file sizes can sometimes be non trivial though!

ARudeTerriblePerson · 25/04/2021 18:10

Thanks, interesting!

The host can designate someone else a co-host (via the Participants button) whilst on the call. That co-host can record which will notify all participants at that point.

The recording will be as it appears to the person (ie the screen ratio/view/video versus content), and will save locally to the person's computer. It's a video file format which can then be edited/shared/etc as you would any similar file. If it's large, one might store in the cloud (ie Google Drive) and share a link from there. At work, I would share via OneDrive due to file size.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 25/04/2021 18:16

Sorry that wasn't clear. The recording is made as it appears on the screen of the person who is doing the recording, if that makes sense!!

They can definitely send you the recording, if they have recorded the session. It can either be saved to your PC or to Zoom’s Cloud, depending on what plan you’re on, and both are downloadable.

I use it loads for work.

I record my seminars on zoom and then am able to share a link to all the students, it gets sent out with a password so that it's all secure. You can ask your tutor to do this - they will be able to do it for recordings they have from the past too.

Redcrayons · 25/04/2021 19:43

They are MP4 files, so he can send them, but they can be really big files. I upload them as unlisted on YT

BeesAnkles · 25/04/2021 19:57

As others said, the recordings are huge files. I had to stop doing it because even a one-hour meeting saved in my Dropbox, but accessible directly on my hardrive, was slowing my laptop down too much (and it's a fairly new one with lots of storage).

That shouldn't be the case Bees. File sizes are quite big but shouldn't impair the performance of your laptop in that way.

Also, ensure they are hosted via cloud-based storage & there won't be an issue.

Wow, thank you. I like the idea of YouTube unlisted - I guess no-one else would find them (generally) if unlisted? There's nothing confidential in what we do, but ideas etc.
