Best places to visit in Cotswolds

Hi everyone,

we (DP, 8 month old DS and myself) are planning a day trip to the Cotswolds tomorrow. We are from Birmingham and have never been to the Cotswolds.

We like stunning nature and quaint little villages.

Can anyone recommend the best places to visit in the Cotswolds?

It’s a large place for a day visit, but Stow on the Wold, Morton in Marsh and Bourton on the Water are the touristy towns where things will be open.

Upper and Lower Slaughter are lovely but not much to do there. Great Tew also gorgeous (thatched rooves), but once again not much to do. Daylesford for lunch and a shop!

Bibury is a very picturesque village which is said to have one of the prettiest rows of cottages in England.

There are a couple of pubs and the river runs through it.

Cirencester nearby is a larger town with more stuff happening.

If you have watched This Country you'll get a good sense of it.

Broadway is right on the edge of the Cotswolds nearest to you and is lovely. Take a drive up Fish hill and go to Broadway tower, and then a drive through Snowshill

Bourton on the water is nice, lots of things to do, there's bird land, a model village and a motor museum.

Cotswold wildlife park.

Bourton-on-the-water for me every time but only because the first time we went there was literally a flock of about 50 (no joke) ducklings soooo always want to go back in case that has happened again Grin Also a nice model village there.

Yes, Brum is there too! As in, the car from the tv show.

And ice cream shops :)

Breathe in, if you drive through Snowshill the lanes are very narrow Grin
The house is lovely, but unfortunately won’t be open.

OP, personally I'd avoid the mega busy places like Bourton on the water (only because I saw local newspaper recently about how busy it has been since lockdown has lifted). Broadway and moreton-in-marsh are closest and are really lovely. Moreton gets a bit busy on the road going in, but once over the bridge it really isn't too bad. So many little cafes etc. It's a nice drive from Brum too. You could stretch it out and drive through Stratford and stop for a break. Although that was the busiest I've seen for months and months today! Still managed to park easily though.

Also Chipping Campden is a nice place to drive though and stop kind of between Broadway and Moreton.

You may be smitten and move from Brum like I did Grin
