Our new rescue cat has just got out. We've had him less than a week. He is microchipped.

Any advice?

@Theunamedcat

Put his litter tray outside Rattle dreamies
I've also heard putting the litter tray outside can help them trace their scent back to the house.

Have a walk round the area and call for him. He will probably recognize your voice if he had just got misnavigated. They are pretty got at finding their way back.

Our girlcat did this after 10 days. She is very attached to me so I hung up a worn pillowcase. I searched when it was quiet and looked high and low. I rattled dreamies on the way back home hoping she would follow me. I printed flyers and walked the streets.

Apparently they dont go far. She was gone for 36 long hours and I was beside myself. She then turned up, slept and ate and went again for another 12 hours. I think sometimes they just want to scope out the environment.

I do hope your cat is back soon

He's still very nervous about everything. Too nervous even to explore the house. But clearly not to get out of the house! We've looked around the neighbourhood and dd tried to tempt him with food, but every time she spotted him he ran away from her. And she's the one he's really bonded with. She knows not to run after him. She's very good at getting cats to come to her. She's so distressed. I hope he's safe and will come home soon.

He's come back! Phew. At least we know that he knows where to come for food! Now that he's eaten he's begging to be let out again. Not happening.
