Nursery dilemma..

I don't know what to do for the best... My daughters nursery is a large chain nursery but other than one or two issues it's been such a lovely setting and she is very happy and settled there.. She has a best friend there too whose mum I have become friendly with and we meet up regularly, we bubbled up during lock down.. It is quite an expensive nursery and takes up 2 thirds of my wages. I'm a single working parent.. I'm starting a new job in the NHS soon and there is an onsite nursery that has s place available.. It's subsided and will be significantly cheaper than i pay now.. The hospital I'm based at is 20 minutes drive from our home.. Little one would be dropped off for 8 and I start work at 8.30am..
It's an independent nursery so not a large chain but it looks really lovely.. It's at the bottom of the road where the hospital I will based at is.
I just don't want my daughter to unhappy.. She loves her nursery and friends and is so settled for the first time in her life.. She literally runs into the nursery when i drop her off.
I don't know what to do for the best.. As financially we'll be a lot better off at the onsite nursery..

It would really depend on her age for to me to make a decision if it were my child. I would probably move 2 and under but not 3. Not quite sure why

Allllchange · 24/04/2021 15:34

I think probably because of the length oF time it would affect me financially. And that I wouldn't want to move her if would be for a shorter time.

Allllchange · 24/04/2021 15:34

And I would also want to look before making a decision

How old is she?

We moved when DD1 was two. WithIn days she had settled at new nursery and she only went twice a week.
DD2 attended three nurseries (the second her sister was at, a daycare one after we moved, then the school preschool with wrap around at day care.
She liked all three. And was clingy at drop off at all three... Just her nature. She hates transitions...she always cried at pick up!

That's so tough. But two thirds of your salary is too expensive. You can save a bit for your future with the subsidised nursery. I wonder could your child do a taster session. At least if you moved you have contact with her friend and mum. So you can keep up the playdates.

Pebbledashery · 24/04/2021 16:00

So she's 2.5 she joined her current nursery just before she turned 2 so she's been there around 7 months now.. Prior to that when I was with her dad he removed her out of a child minding setting and 2 nurseries that he believed were substandard.. They weren't at all.. He's just an abuser (if you've not seen my other threads) she would be in nursery till she's 5 and joins reception.. It's really tough as financially we would be so much better off.. But i just think how much she loves her nursery and she is so happy. :(

Children are so adaptable. She will be fine.
Mine were at same
Nursery 4 years, went to school with new friends (no one from nursery) and we had to change schools after 2 terms to move to a school they didn't know anyone

And they have adapted much better than me! Children are great and with such a pay difference it will make sense until the funded hours kick in

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 24/04/2021 16:13

Does the one she's at now have a waiting list? If not, you could always try for a month or two and see.

Chatanooga1 · 24/04/2021 16:17

What if you had moved to a completely different area, she would have to change nurseries then wouldn’t she?

I would put her in the subsidised one and arrange play dates with new friends.

Ohdoleavemealone · 24/04/2021 16:21

I'd move her. Another 2.5 year of such high fees is not great.

Allllchange · 24/04/2021 16:26

I would move providing you can get three year old funding in the new nursery and as long as you can't see any reason for her to move again before starting school (eg if you wanted her to go to a school feeder nursery).

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 24/04/2021 16:29

They’re really adaptable at that age and friendships are fleeting. If it’s going to be financially better for you and you like the new nursery I’d go for it. It does mean a new settling in period but if there’s still a couple of years of nursery then it would be worth it.

Gizlotsmum · 24/04/2021 16:30

I would move, she can still have play dates with her friend, she may be upset at first but will soon settle I am sure. Just think of all the things you can do with the extra money. She will make new friends and will do again when she goes to school

mindutopia · 24/04/2021 16:31

I would move. She’ll adjust fine and ultimately you’ll both be happier if life is a bit easier.
