Car finance, can i have the debt wiped

I got a car on finance 8 years ago amd found out i was pregnant not long later.

I made on time payments for 2 years until i fell pregnant again and a cock up with my insuramce made me unable to make payments as i couldnt afford the payment increase so i gave the car back .

I left work and 6 years later i havemt been able to repay the £3000 debt.

Can i now get this written off?

@JackieTheFart

Why didn’t you contact them and ask them to take the car back as you couldn’t afford it?

I assume you needed a car.

In which case, you’re not coming out of this unscathed. You’ll be lucky a bailiff doesn’t seize the car.

I think she gave the car back. Obviously the debt was larger than the resale value.

Might as well stop asking OP questions. She didn't answer any when she came back to the thread before.

* I told them i couldnt repay it for a lomg time, i did get letters and then they stopped but then i got one out of the blue saying somthing about the debt no longer being there... But when i called it was still there as i was ablento start repaying and then corona hit and i could no longer make the payments.*

So last point of contact was 2020. So no, the debt won’t be wiped out.

Hope you enjoy life with no car, tv, jewellery, computers, mobile phone, furniture or anything else of value that the bailiffs will remove from your home.

Didn’t they repossess the car?

Neonprint · 24/04/2021 19:52

Yeah that's not how debt works. If they'd not contacted you for 6 years (I think) then you could argue they had let it lapse. But it sounds like you were in touch about this about a year ago?

GreyhoundG1rl · 24/04/2021 19:57

They've been in contact with you through the 6 year period, op.
Did you really think managing to avoid paying for 6 years put you outside the statute of limitations?
