Can anyone solve my laundry mystery?

Several times over the past few weeks clothes have come out looking like they were splashed with something. At first I thought the kids had got themselves dirty without me realising but it’s definitely not as it’s also happened on one of my running tops.
Anyone any ideas why clothes are coming out of the machine with stains they didn’t have when they went in?
Normally wash with a bio detergent on 30° apart from sports gear which goes on a separate wash with Halo sports detergent. Towels and sheets 60° but never happened with them.

This happened to me when the fabric got trapped inside the rubber seal - which I then found out was a bit grubby inside.

Do a maintenance wash (empty machine, hottest your machine goes).

First thing, check the door seal. Get right in the creases. Then clean out the filter. Are you in a hard water area? Try running it empty with some calgon or white vinegar. You might be using too much detergent, and 30 isn't hot enough to dissolve it (esp in hard water)
There's probably more, but I haven't drunk my coffee yet.

I've had this with my machine once, set to hottest wash and run empty with bio powder only see if that helps

Yep there's another one from aroundtheworld Grin

Fab! I did do a maintenance wash at 90° a few weeks ago and clean the filter but I will check the door seals. I normally bung some soda crystals in the maintenance wash but would vinegar be better? Yes extremely hard water here!

Are you using liquid or powder detergent?
Powder keeps the drum cleaner

Ducksurprise · 24/04/2021 11:48

Put an old towel in the maintenance wash, you need the weight to vigorate the water to make the powder work properly.

If you use pods and/or conditioner, there may well be a build up of residue/gunk.

Run a 90deg wash with just a cupful of soda crystals, no detergent.

You may be amazed at the amount of foam that still appears. I was, and there was still quite a bit with a 2nd 90 deg wash.

I only ever use a small amount of powder - no more pods - plus soda crystals now.

I put my dirty cleaning cloths in the hot maintenance wash, so looks like there's a lot of similar advice here. Don't know if vinegar is better than soda crystals, it's just what I have. I buy gallons of the stuff and use a splosh of it in nearly every wash. The washing machine has stayed a lot cleaner. It's cheaper than calgon, and it gets used for cleaning water marks off just about everything around the house. I only use the viakal etc when the situation gets desperate, because the fumes make me gag.
I have also abandoned fabric softener. The vinegar works as well (better maybe). And the dispenser drawer doesn't grow mould any more.
