I got a job!! How do I cancel a different late stage interview?

After a long hard slog, I have finally secured a new job!

I have a few other interviews lined up, one of which is a final stage interview.

I obviously need to cancel these interviews as soon as possible, but what should I say? I've been interviewing for months and months, actually getting a job offer has been a happy shock! I'm not sure how to word it. Any advice welcome!

@amusedbush how did you find out what the ex manager said about you?

The hiring manager phoned me to say they had some concerns about one of my references but they wouldn't tell me what it said or which of my referees submitted it. The person I assumed was the culprit (a batshit manager who had always seemed to hate me for no reason - I had to provide her name though, as the application required three referees: current boss, previous boss, plus one additional) turned out to be on holiday and when I called her office phone, it was picked up by The Big Boss, who had also agreed to be a referee.

I gave a quick overview of what was happening and she straight up admitted it on the phone. She was as cold as ice and told me everything she'd said. I was stunned because I'd bumped into her three days before that and she'd said that she'd looked over the job spec and it looked like a great opportunity, she was happy to provide a reference, etc.

She had gone through the essential criteria of the new job and basically shot down each point in the reference, saying that she had never witnessed me doing any of the things they required and she had no faith that I'd be able to carry out the role. In my application and interview I'd used examples of projects that Big Boss was either involved in or kept in the loop on, so she was talking absolute shit. She didn't benefit in any way from doing it and she grey rocked me, just repeating "I had to be honest".

HR wouldn't let me submit additional references and the union told me that references are subjective and I couldn't raise a complaint under the dignity and respect policy because it was a one-off and therefore not bullying. After 7 years there, I left.

@amusedbush that's crazy HR wouldn't let you give another reference. Did she apply for the position and angry you got the position over her.

As I said, she was my ex boss’ boss so it’s definitely nothing like that. She was in a £60k a year job and the one I was offered was £29k.

She had no obvious motives for it and it didn’t benefit her in any way.

I'd go to the interviews. You will also have a bargaining chip and if they want you they will have a sense of urgency.

I've done this and got offered both! My DS had 2 offered to him when he went to another one and they offered him more money to have him!

Congratulations!
