How do you learn a trade as an adult with no money?

I’m on UC. They’ve never tried to help me get work (I have a toddler so difficult) but surely I could have been training in something or learning something or SOMETHING in this time. I feel there’s no easily accessible information.

Google sends me round in circles.

I want to learn a trade, like a “labourer” trade? Bricklayer/plasterer/electrician something like that. But is it possible?! Does anyone know this stuff?!?!

See what courses your local adult education centre offer. If you are on low income then a lot of the time you can apply for the courses at a lower or free fee.

English and maths gcse courses are often free to do. Just speak to the college and explain your situation.

There are lots of avenues, but the first step is to have a clear idea of what you'd like to train in, and what specific job you are looking to do after.
Once you decide that, then you can narrow your search.

My local college is offering free courses for adults, everything from engineering to welding. Give yours a call and see how they can help you.

How do you feel about computer coding/programming? Supposedly these are easy to learn online for free and it's a very marketable skill.

Apply for an apprenticeship? The salary is quite low but I think you would be eligible for benefits
