My grandchild was born this morning. My DD2 had a difficult and very long (3 day ) labour . Baby is currently in intensive care , intubated, ventilated, paralysed (to stop him fighting the ventilator) with tubes everywhere. He was in severe distress and had inhaled a lot of meconium.
DD2 is exhausted..she was incredible her lovely dh tells me, and in a room where she can hear other babies with their Mums while her son (her first..and my first grandchild) is wired up and fighting for his life.
He's gorgeous.. a shock of dark hair which is a surprise as she is very blonde, and he's a chunk (she's tiny!). But he's a very unwell chunk
I want to support her, but she's there, I'm not even allowed to visit.. and baby will be there for some time.

He should be been got out earlier IMO.. it was obvious it wasn't going well.. but that's for future review. We just want him to be well, and for DD2 to be able to hold him.

Teddy sounds like he has such a wonderful, strong mum and a fantastic family waiting to meet him. He's a lucky boy surrounded by so much love.
Fantastic news.

Hope the little big guy makes a complete recovery

Scottishskifun · 28/04/2021 12:19

Big love!
My DS went into neonatal it was very stressful especially the expressing as she will have adrenaline pumping which doesn't help milk production.

If your nearby things which help your DD are a supply of milk helping foods anything high in oats so flapjacks, oat cookies etc will all help. Other things whihh help are a loads of button down shirts but also meals for her and her DH which can be heated easily in the microwave. Anything to take the pressure off having to think of what to do with food!
It sounds like he is progressing well 😊

A teddy for Teddy Bear, and Cake and a Brew for his Mummy and Flowers and Gin for you. Great update!

Sending you lots of love 💙 really pleased to hear Teddy is doing well.

My niece had a similar birth and she was the biggest, but poorliest baby in the special care baby unit. But she made progress everyday and was able to come home at 2 weeks. She did need physio and was under a paediatrician until she was 2, but she is a happy, healthy, nearly 9 year old now.

Sending you all lots of love xx

Congratulations on your new grandson @StillMedusa. I am so glad he is getting better. Hopefully you can have a big hug with your little one soon Star

@hiredandsqueak that is fantastic news for you too! Flowers

All the very best to baby Ted and your DD! FlowersCakeBrew
I donated breast milk to the neonatal unit at the hospital where I had DS. It was an amazing set up with guys on mopeds who’d come and collect it every couple of weeks. But I’ve never heard of anyone who actually benefitted from donated breast milk so that’s lovely!

StillMedusa · 29/04/2021 23:26

Asposhasitgets On behalf of my DD2 and her baby...and all the other babies, THANK YOU! We are lucky that the hospital has the facility to do this and we have no doubt it has helped Teddy to recover much more quickly from his horrible start.

DDS is now breastfeeding him herself and he is taking to it like a pro! I finally got to meet him tonight and he is scrumptious. And loud Grin
For a baby who couldn't breath unaided he is now letting us know he is HERE a mere 6 days later...!

Congratulations Grulie’s dd and her DH, and to you too OP Grulie! 🎉🎉🍾🥂 So glad that little Teddie is doing so well. What a frightening time, and I imagine your DD is angry that she wasn’t given a c section much earlier on, but it is wonderful that both she and your little grandson are ok.

Aw @StillMedusa, you, DD and particularly the Little Chunk are welcome (though as my DS is now 10 it’s unlikely that any of my personal donations are still around Grin). So glad to hear things are going well.
Scottishskifun · 30/04/2021 00:27

Brilliant news 😊

Your right OP research has shown that babies in neonatal who receive breastmilk spend less time there and less issues. It's why neonatal units encourage pumping/breastfeeding.

I don't think they shout it loudly enough the benefits that donation milk plays. I was a donor for 8 months and it was so simple and a easy solution to my over supply. Thankfully they have also stopped the baby age cap on donors (it used to be only possible to donate up to your own baby being 11 months)

LeftyLou · 30/04/2021 00:32

I am so happy for you @StillMedusa. 😊
Best wishes to you and yours!

That is amazing what you do/have done @Asposhasitgets and @Scottishskifun.
