10yr old dd rash on both hands

Yesterday my dd came home from school with a red rash on the top of one hand, I put E45 on and she seemed ok. Today she has come home and both hands from fingers to about 3 inches above her wrist are red and sore/itchy. She looks like she has plunged them into hot water and burnt them!

No rash on her palms, she has the same day cream she has always used since a baby and nowhere else is affected. I’m thinking she is allergic to either the sanitizer or hand soap at school. I’ve given her piriton, E45 and some calpol.

I’m going to send her in next week with her own sanitizer she uses at home and some hand soap. However I want to check in with the hive mind and see if I’m missing some obvious cause or should get it checked out as it maybe something else?

Hi, this is happening to both my 8 year old twin dds. I told them to put suncream on the back of their hands before they go out for their breaks, and the problem is solved. They mentioned its happening to lots of their Classmates

My ds had this too, though I think from bubblegum soap at home

If new, it could be a combination of some kind of contact allergy and the sun?

Are you sure it's not as a result of washing their hands so much? My 5yo has a rash on the back of her hands, it's dry and a bit scaly and looks like eczema but I'm 99% sure that it's because of the frequency it's being washed rather than being sensitive to the soap.

We've been using Child's Farm moisturiser and it helps a lot.

We have a child at school who can't use the sanitiser as he's allergic, so it could be that. Dry, itchy skin may be too much hand washing but I guess a rash is more likely to be an allergy?

I went to a baby clinic once and used their baby wipes instead of the cloth/water combo I normally use. I had a very painful night of an itchy rash all over my fingers.

Hand washing only followed by cream?

My son has this all the time when he's at school, since all the extra hand hygiene started. I think it's just the soap and hand gel irritating. I put Aveeno on him every night and it keeps it at bay.

My daughter has begun the same this week, I don't think she is washing the back of her hands properly and the soap is affecting her skin. I've sent in a bottle of our own hand was and sanitizer to see if it makes a difference. The school day they are using the same products they always use and have done since September with no adverse affect.

Google hand foot and mouth ... just a thought

Zofloramummy · 23/04/2021 20:48

Definitely not foot and mouth, we had that in nursery, my dd is a carrier and gave it to me!

This is a red rash, the skin looks burnt not dry like ezsema, looks more like contact dermatitis or an allergy.

She is now nearly back to normal skin after 6 hours at home, E45 cream and piriton. Definitely going for home products being sent into school. Nice to see that she is the only one though!
