When did you stop washing baby clothes before use?

Exactly as the title says, really. I’ve searched other threads and can’t seem to find the answer (neither can Google, it seems). I know some of the chemicals used in manufacturing can be harmful to babies’ skin, but at what age does this pose less of a risk and washing isn’t necessary? Thank you.

Never washed clothes before they are worn ... occasionally if they come from a charity shop but not always grin .... Mumsnet seems obsessed with washing.

I still wash ds’s at 9. Every time I forget or think surely it will be ok now he gets a rash. Especially with trousers

Wizzbangfizz · 24/04/2021 19:48

Never washed them before use and never wash my new clothes before wearing. All of us are still alive.

When they were born. I only did it in pregnancy to see the white vests on the line Grin

I wash all clothes before they're worn for the first time. I've worked in retail so am aware of how clothes are taken out of packets, tried on, touched, picked up and fall on the floor, not to mention clothes that are tried on.

onthinice · 24/04/2021 19:57

Oops ha ha I had already mentioned clothes that are tried on.

I also hate that vinegar smell that lots of clothes have when they come direct from the manufacturer and they always seem quite stiff before they've had a wash with fabric softner.

ProbablyGryffindor · 24/04/2021 19:57

I wash them all.

You never know who has touched them, shoved them on a grubby factory floor, worn filthy pants and tried your new trousers on before putting them back on the shelf. Or sweaty arm pits from a changing room on your new t-shirt, where a previous person tried it on before not buying. Plus any chemicals. Plus those baby clothes purchased from a supermarket, in a filthy trolley with raw chicken and goodness knows what germs. Yes, meat packaging leaks.

I never knew I was in the minority. Of course you won’t die from it, but it could be pretty disgusting.

Echobelly · 24/04/2021 20:20

I never started!

MixedUpFiles · 24/04/2021 20:35

Never.
As an adult I can’t wear clothing without washing it first. I would break out in a horrible rash. Would never risk that with a child of any age.

Bumblebee1980a · 24/04/2021 20:37

Since the virus I have washed clothes before they're worn. Pjs mainly.

Natsku · 24/04/2021 20:44

Never stopped, I always wash new clothes before wearing, children and adults.
