Car insurance advice?

I just bought a peugeot 207 verve, I'm a 30 year old first time driver, living in N.I. I got a few insurance quotes online first, and they all seem affordable, but I'd like the best deal possible.

If anyone has any general advice, or can recommend a provider, it would be greatly appreciated.

Are you commuting or not? (This makes a difference)
Comp cover or third party? (Always go comp but third party is cheaper)
With you being a first time driver it’s going to be a lot.
Once your gain NCB over the years it’ll go down.

I'll be commuting, and I'm probably better going for comp?

So far the average I've seen is about £1200?

Yeah sounds about right!

Have you put down named drivers? I was advised to do that to bring my insurance down. I passed last February and managed to get a quote for £80 a month on the car I have but when I done quotes for other cars it was coming up with prices similar to yours.

The quote will change depending on what your excess is, think wisely.

My daughter’s quote came down just by adding me as a second driver on her policy.

Don't go for the cheapest. Be aware of what you 'get' when looking. A high excess is fine if you can afford it, if not maybe look at lowering that to get yourself better cover. Look at the legal cover, do you get/need added breakdown? Is the breakdown adequate if you do want it? Is a courtesy car included? Would you need one?

rainbowthoughts · 23/04/2021 07:35

Oh, and try direct line.

Another pic to be aware of is how much is charged for why policy changes. Some are free and some charge over £50

When I first passed, putting both my parents on my policy brought it right down and even now, 10 years later, having my husband on there makes a big difference so does the voluntary excess and the miles. I have my miles set at 6k a year even though I know o so much much less but my quote is always more. Something to do with not driving enough

GoddessLocs · 23/04/2021 07:39

Agree with previous post, can you add another driver? I passed at 25 and my fully comp insurance with admiral cost £60 a month. Granted I don't live in a city

Use a price comparison site.
Only choose an excess you can afford.
Add an experienced named driver but don't make the mistake or trying to say they are the main driver.
Get legal cover which will help recover losses in a non fault accident.

A black box should keep your premium down

Not relevant to the cover but get a dash cam.

PinkCookie11 · 23/04/2021 08:26

Your bank may provide break down cover if you have a certain account so worth checking.

I think go compare do a thing where if you have an accident you can claim your excess back. We put our excess up quite high which reduces the cost overall so that we can claim it back. A car went into mine while I was parked and drove away, I think it took about a month to claim it back.
