Washing powder eczema

DD9. has me eczema. It has got worse recently.

I get a bit obsessed with nice smelling fabric softeners and also add in a capful of Zoflora to the drawer. So, of course this is the likely culprit.

I wash her stuff separately as she has her own washing basket so can use different detergent.

Any recommendations? I normally use fairy which I will use this weekend but will avoid the softner and Zoflora.

Also any good cream recommendations?

I use Persil non bio and no softener. Anything fragranced will set off a flare up so I avoid. I also use about half of the recommended amount of detergent, unless heavily soiled then I just do an extra rinse after.

Thank you, I just realised some typos in my OP. Her eczema is mild but has seemed to have got worse recently.

I have been and bought some Persil non bio and have found the extra rinse button on my machine.

Thanks for the advice.

Surcare is your friend

Surcare is what the eczema specialist nurses recommend. Much better than the non bios

Thanks, I couldn't find any Surecare in Asda yesterday but will have a look when I'm in other supermarkets.

It’s definitely in Waitrose and Tesco

My ds had quite bad eczema, he was fine with biological powder, never conditioner, that would irritate his skin, never overload machine and the extra rinse everytime so it was rinsed extremely thoroughly.

No bubble bath at all, no sprays on soft furniture just cleaned with a steam cleaner. He did grow out of it though is still allergic to cats, fine with other animals.

Sainsbury's have it and also sometimes Home Bargains!

Never fabric conditioner, bubble bath, and most baby moisturisers Sad

We think ours is related to food as well

I use the Fairy liquid non-bio detergent, NOT the Fairy gel detergent - it's got a really strong smell and affects my skin.
I also use Surcare fabric conditioner.
My washing machine has got a mode for a longer wash so I use that and always do an extra rinse.
Make sure you do the same for anything else she comes into contact with - towels, sheets, even if you hug her
TBH we found it easier to wash everything in non-bio and only use bio if absolutely necessary (e.g. my son's sweaty exercise kit and then it gets a non-bio wash after the bio wash anyway)

If she's got ezcema she may well have other allergies (I do, and react to fragrances in most things) so try and minimise the scents and fragrances generally (no room "fresheners" for example, I'm sure they're not good for people generally)

wingsnthat · 24/04/2021 16:28

Oh wow. Life must be difficult for those of you with severe allergies.

I have a diagnosed allergy but I’m lucky that it is v mild; I can use items containing it without any issue. What you guys experience is honestly my nightmare. I still avoid my allergen as to not expose myself further; I couldn’t imagine getting constant reactions like some of you do so I’m trying my best to keep it plateaued !

Oldraver · 24/04/2021 17:03

I use a non bio usually Asda's as it's the least smelly

However after reading the 'I develope washing detergents AMA recently where the OP said we were obsessed in this country with smells in detergent and other countries were not, and how non- bio isn't used elsewhere

I wonder if it's really the 'bio' bit that irritates and not the excessive smells

wingsnthat · 24/04/2021 17:11

Yes fragrance is apparently the #1 skin contact allergy. It’s not the scent that’s the issue, it’s how sensitising the ingredients can be against skin

Wowcherarestalkingme · 24/04/2021 17:14

Fairy non-bio is the only thinks that doesn’t cause my skin to flair up
