Would you use the Morrison’s salad bar at the moment?

I was surprised to see it open today, just as it used to be with all the trays open and tongs in each which you obviously have to share as you move along. There was no one using it mind.

When I saw it open for self-serve again a couple of weeks ago, I was surprised to the point I hesitated and even looked around like it was some sort of a trap.

Still didn’t stop me though. Who’d have thought a salad box could be a social taboo waves at aghast fellow shoppers with my tongs

notacooldad · 22/04/2021 17:09

My counters open but the staff fill your box.
I bet they don't try and squeeze the last possible grain of rice in and hope the lid doesn't fling open at the till like people do in my local Morrisons!

I never used it before and wouldn't start now. Just a mass of germs and risk IMO- even before covid.

I've been put off my seeing:

  • a child sneezed into the middle of the salad bar and a huge snot flew out his nose
  • someone using tongs to get (I think) a boiled egg which then fell the floor. They picked up the egg with their hand and put it back in the salad bar!
  • People using their hands to grabs things

I have been lured to the salad bar in the past however I was always a tad hesitant and only used it if I was in an 'ok, fuck it- it'll be fine' mood.
I'd not use it now.

Oldraver · 22/04/2021 17:27

Nope. Ive not used it since I saw a scutter poking her fingers in taking out a bit then eating it

Topseyt · 22/04/2021 17:30

If there were a Morrisons near me I would use it if it contained stuff I fancied. No qualms at all.

CovidCorvid · 22/04/2021 17:39

I wouldn’t.

I saw my local one is open and for shoppers to serve themselves. Someone was getting told off as she hadn’t put disposable gloves on and had been handling the tongs with her bare hands! You are supposed to wear the gloves but nobody is supervising.

RoseMartha · 22/04/2021 17:40

No but then I would never use it at any other time either.

Prefer to get myself the salad stuff and make my own

Mumguilt19 · 22/04/2021 17:46

I have but ours has a one way system and hand gel at both ends for hands as well as wipes for tongs. I wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for the fact it seemed really thought out 😀

I used to be quite relaxed about things like this until one day in the supermarket bakery section I saw a small child go up to the doughnuts that were in a basket for self service, pick up several and I kid you not lick one before putting it back and running off.
Put me off these self serve food items for life!

35andThriving · 25/04/2021 21:41

No, but that's because I was ill twice after a Morrisons salad (pre-covid).

Oblomov21 · 25/04/2021 21:47

I'm saddened by the paranoia. This doesn't make sense to me. Do you honestly believe you are going to catch covid?

Or Hep A. What are the stats for this?
