Has anyone got an Alessi kettle?

We've just done a bit of a kitchen refurb, and our cheap and cheerful kettle could do with an upgrade. I've admired the Alessi whistling bird kettle for years, but have never bought one as it seems insane to spend that much on a kettle. But I'm now thinking, I've loved it for so long, I've got some JL vouchers, why not?

BUT, would like to know what people think - is it too fiddly to use? Anything else I should know? It seems virtually impossible to source the electric ones now, so I guess we'd be getting a stovetop one (induction hob here).

I love mine although my husband hates it and complains about not having an electric one. That's been better since he now drinks coffee in the morning from a filter machine, which he can set going and head off into the shower.

Mine sits on a standalone induction hob now, but it did get a bit scratched when jostled against saucepans on the main hob, so that's something to be aware of if you like things pristine.

My mum had one - looked pretty but I hated it. Took ages to boil.

I gave mine away and bought a kitchenaid kettle

I have one, got it thrown in for free whilst haggling on a Knoll dining table at a mid century furniture store. Looks great but it is essentially a stove top kettle and all stove tops are slow compared to electric. We replaced an IKEA one with ours, in the US where electric ones aren’t really a thing due to the lower voltage, and can’t say I really notice a difference in boiling time. Looks great on the hob though!

Oh dear Sad, this probably confirms another reason why I've never gone for it - practicality...

Hmm, maybe I could buy one just for show?!?

I wouldnt waste my money on this rubbish. It may be stylish but its not fit for purpose, mine rusted and they told me I'd over used it (in 9mths with only two of us in the house), didn't realise we should have bought a kettle each!

I have a sage kettle and it’s the best, between that and my dualit vario 4 slice toaster, I would shed actual tears if they broke!

But it's Alessi and always so achingly cool to look at. Doesn't mean it's better. @NoEffingWay has it right
